( Inspired by the song Selfish by Stephanie Poetri. Spice alert- slightly detailed kissing )

Tam hadn't seen Keefe since Thursday, when they'd kissed, hurriedly agreeing not to say a word. A grin rose to his lips as he thought about it, but his smile quickly fell. It was Saturday. Which probably meant he was being ghosted.

It wasn't like this hadn't happened before. Except for the fact Keefe was out and proud, in comparison to every heartbreak in the past.

"I found Marella," Linh piped, grinning as her arm swung, hand clasped with the blonde's. She tilted her head, squinching her mouth to the side. "Tam?"

"Yeah?"

"She found me," Marella said, raising an eyebrow. "What's up with all this gloom?"

Before he could answer, a wave of cheers rolled through the crowd, whoops and shouts erupting towards the front door of the mansion.

"I thought his Dad didn't let him come to these things," Linh puzzled. Tam didn't think so either.

Everyone was looking at the source of the noise.

In other words, the one and only Keefe Sencen.

"Grady would never let Sophie go either," Marella commented. Which meant the pair snuck out. Together.

Tam hadn't said a word.

His eyes were on Keefe, gazing as he threw his head back laughing at something Sophie said. And god, he would do anything to switch places with her at that moment. Keefe pushed his hair back, hand raking through his hair, a twinkle in his eyes.

They locked eyes. The rest of the room didn't disappear- the sea of people between them simply blurred. Those people didn't matter at all. They were clumps of pixels in the picture, while Keefe and Tam were the subjects.

"-am? Are you there?"

"Yeah," he turned back toward Linh. "I just might need something to wake me up."

"The beer sucks," Marella warned.

"Sounds perfect."

Keefe started to head over, Sophie and Fitz behind him

So naturally, Tam walked in the opposite direction. Which also happened to be the kitchen.

"Fixed," Dex said, shutting the refrigerator door. "The switch was just jammed- but the lightbulb won't last for much longer.."

Biana thanked the boy profusely, gushing her appreciation.

"Know where a guy could get a shitty beer around here?"

"Bronze ice bucket," Biana answered. "Gold has champagne, bronze has fruity stuff, and the new wine is on the counter."

"What, you're not shelling out for the good stuff?"

"Last time we had a party, the triplets got into the wine cellar. So no, we're not shelling out for the good stuff. You don't usually joke like that."

Tam grabbed a beer, hopping up on the counter.

"If you must know, I have a full-time job avoiding Keefe Sencen."

"Hold on, I thought you guys were frenemies," Dex cut in.

"Did something happen? Regarding the unresolved sexual tension between you two?"

"You're surprisingly chill considering middle school," Tam observed, wincing as he swallowed a burning sensation.

"I'll always be a little sister to him- that's not my fault. I have plenty of others vying for my attention." With that, Biana fluttered her fingers, winking at those she knew had been watching her. She laughed, sweeping her hair over her shoulder.

"Why are you avoiding him," Dex asked, ignoring Biana's flirtations. "I know I'm not the most emotionally intelligent cinnamon roll in the box, and it would be nice if you told me what happened instead of making us both participate in that confusing dance of propriety people do."

"They kissed, obviously," Biana stated, still smiling at the partygoers as she twisted a lock of hair around her fingers. "They didn't sleep together yet, it would be way more awkward."

"Yet?" Tam exclaimed, eyes popping out of his head. "But I'm super-"

"Don't you dare say ace. We know you only said that to get out of seven minutes in heaven with Marella. Besides, we saw you and the froster kid at the graduation ceremony. It wasn't subtle."

"Which is, by the way, not cool to those of us who are actually ace," Dex put in.

"Sorry dude . . . Linh had a thing for Marella and I would have said pretty much anything to get out of it anyways. It shouldn't have been that though."

"It's alright."

"What do I do? I can't avoid him forever. Should I kiss someone in front of him to make him jealous?"

"Tam. Ease up on the beer, that's a terrible idea."

"I had one sip- and it's better than changing my identity and moving across the world!"

"I could help with that!" Dex piped.

Biana finally stopped with her incessant flirting, turning towards Tam.

"You know, for a guy taking all advanced classes, I wouldn't have expected you to be this dense. Communicate. Talk to him. Or, as my idiot brother once said, you could 'skip the talking.' This isn't going to go away on its own."

Tam gaped, jaw dropped.

"And you really think that'll work?"

"Which part?"

"The Fitz quote?"

"Go get your boy, babe."

"Seconded! Without the babe!"

"Got it," Tam said, scrambling off the countertop. "God, this is so bad. I don't know why I tried it again." He drank some water, tossing his cup in the trash as he ran out.

Pushing his way through the crowd, he searched the room for Keefe. Left, right- wait, left! Tam shoved through his classmates to reach their clique. It was as if the party revolved around them. He knew they were popular. And he suddenly loved it as the partygoers parted like the red sea in front of him, making a clear path to Keefe.

So he slowed, gazing on as Keefe turned toward him, eyebrows furrowed, his lips forming an o of confusion. Tam was absolutely certain a blush had overtaken his cheeks from the eyes on him, but he set his jaw, determinedly striding forward.

"Tam, I couldn't find-"

"Shut up," he ordered.

"Wha-"

"Can I kiss you?"

"I should have told you to make me shut-"

Tam cut Keefe off, pressing their lips together in a heady rush of ferocity. Keefe's muscles relaxed, and he pulled Tam closer to him, hands on his waist.

"You're so." Tam captured Keefe's mouth with a kiss. "Damn." Another kiss. Keefe chased Tam's lips, pausing as Tam continued. "Stupid." And another kiss.

The blond pulled back, smirking.

"I think you've made your point."

"Not quite."

Tam crashed their lips back together, taking Keefe's bottom lip between his teeth when his lips parted slightly, angling his head as he pushed their bodies closer together. His fingers curled in Keefe's hair, feeling their hearts beat as one, quick and sure. The tiniest gasp sounded from the blond, and Tam wanted to hear it over and over and over again.

They broke apart with a crude pop, both panting for air.

"That," Keefe said, catching his breath. "Was hot."

"Shut up."

"Make me."

So he did.

( I'll transfer my Quinalden songfic over in a couple days to space things out while I work on a different piece. The Jolie oneshot series is on hiatus for songfic season, and I will routinely be uploading songfics. )
