( Love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah )

She couldn't scream. She couldn't cry. Sophie was numb, paralyzed. The throwing star she used to slit open the letter trembled, slipping out of her fingers. It stabbed into the floor with a reverberating echo, grazing Sophie's shin on the way down.

Sophie took no note of it, because she wasn't there. Her whole mind had shut down. As much as she wanted to be mad at Keefe, she couldn't. The helplessness, the guilt he was feeling right now were the same as the ones making up the monster of her memories.

She set the letter back on her pillow, mindlessly making her way back to her shower, sinking down in the water. Her tunic soaked, she finally gave in, weeping in raw grief, screaming in agony. Hours later, Edaline lay next to her in bed, silent tears still running down Sophie's cheek.

"I don't wanna do this anymore, Mom," Sophie whispered to the dark, a sob bubbling up from her throat. Her voice broken, Edaline tightened her arms around her daughter. What was she supposed to say? Were there any words to lessen the pain, the suffering Sophie was embodying? "It hurts too much."

"I know, honey. I know."

The two of them ached in the stillness, both for different reasons.

Edaline knew in her heart Sophie would always forgive Keefe, because she loved him. He tormented her in these moments. But this time, Edaline didn't know if she could. Anyone that caused this much hurt- no. It wasn't her choice.

Sophie's ragged breathing quieted, breaths evening out. She had cried herself to sleep.

( I just ruined my own OTP for myself. I'm not crying, you are. )
