Keefe mournfully sat up in bed, his knees huddled against his toned chest, glaring at Ro. If looks could kill, this one would send him straight to hell.
"What, all I'm saying is, Sophie's available."
"It's wrong." Keefe's voice cracked at the last syllable, and he ignored how much he wanted to do the opposite. "You think I don't want to?" Keefe turned his head away from his bodyguard's piercing eyes. "I don't know how I would even start."
"Simple. Three words." I love you? "I'd murder species for you."
"That wasn't three words," Keefe grumbled.
"It wasn't?" Ro's eyes widened in a fake-innocent look. "We do it the ogre way now unless you have any better ideas. Which is doubtful."
"I MADE A PROMISE."
"FORGET THE STUPID VACKERS FOR ONE MINUTE!" The ogre stomped her foot. "I've dropped so many hints while you stood by doing nothing. The girl is oblivious and you know it. So start trying Elf-boy or she and you will be in the dark. Probably forever." Ro's voice had gone from shouting, to hissing, to something never heard before. Pity.
"It's too soon. She needs time." Keefe knew Ro was right about one thing. Sophie was oblivious. She didn't know Keefe lived and breathed for her, that he would die for her. And Keefe intended for it to stay that way. Keefe couldn't live without her. Sophie didn't need that burden added to her shoulders. Keefe and Fitz both have fractured family names, reputations. But the difference was, Keefe loved Sophie enough to break them.
