Chapter 19: Spying

*1 week later *
Max's pov

El has been in the hospital for a week so far. She's getting better. The boys and the others come to visit her every day. She feels way better when they come around. She looks happy. I'm so glad she's better. We even play uno in the hospital room since she can. We laugh and have fun. This makes us forget about our problems, especially el's stomach. If I was layed on that bed all day without doing anything I would start thinking about it more and more. And it would be so stressful so they come here to get her mind off those bad thoughts,of course we want to hang out together too. El had the idea to spy on billy to find him, but obviously she can't use her powers after being shot, she's too weak but she kept saying she can do it. But we insisted that it would hurt herself more. The cops are still looking for him. She made us promise we would let her do it when at least a week pasts. We stopped playing uno and we watched something on the TV in the hospital room cause we got bored. "can someone tell hop to come here for a second?" El suddenly said. We all looked at each other confused thinking something bad happened. "are you okay?" Mike asks. "yeah I'm fine, I just want to ask him something don't worry" she said. We all sighed. Lucas went to get him in. Hopper came after 2 minutes. "what's wrong kid?" hopper asked. "did you find him" El asked. We all knew where this was going. "who?" hopper asked acting dumb. "Billy dad" El said. Hopper was surprised by her calling him dad, he got emotional but hid it. "oh, no not yet" he said disappointed. El looked down. "we'll find him okay, don't worry" hopper said. "no, I'm ready and I'm not scared for me, I'm scared for you all" El said. I took her hand. She looked at me. "don't worry about us, and you're not ready" hopper said. "yes, I am, just let me try you said I could try after a week" El said getting angry. "I know, but you're not-" El cut him off. "yes, I am, you promised, friends don't lie, now he's gonna come find us all, not just me if he sees all of you trying to protect me he won't hesitate to hurt anyone" El said. We all know El is mad when she says 'friends don't lie'. We all stayed quiet for a few seconds. She looked at us all with a 'so?' look. "okay fine, just be careful" hopper finally said. "I will" she said and sighed relieved. We all were worried that something will happen to her if she does but we can't change her mind. "do we have a blindfold here?" El asked. We all looked around for one. "no" dustin said.No one made the move to say 'I'll go get one'
She looked at us. "can someone go get one?"she asked before anyone could say anything." uh, Jonathan can you go? "Joyce finally said, we realised that nothing could change el's mind. So Jonathan did. He drove to his house to get one. He would be back in 20 minutes at least. " El" I said grabbing her hand again. She turned to look at me. "yeah?" she said. "are you sure about this? It's not safe" I said worried about her, cause she's the one who Billy mostly threated. "yes, I don't want you guys in danger, I know he wants me but if we keep going like this he'll shoot us all or worse" she said. She has a point though to be honest. Hopper came in. "what if a nurse or the doctors comes to check her while spying on Billy?" Mike asked. "I'll tell them she's going to sleep and to not come in, that we'll take care of her" he replied. We all nodded. "I'll do that when Jonathan comes back" he finished. "okay" we all said. 10 minutes later Jonathan came back. "alright I found one" he said. Hopper got out of the room and we stayed in waiting patiently. Once hopper came back he locked the door. Steve stayed outside to check just in case someone randomly decides to get in the room. The rest stayed in with El. "good thing is that he doesn't know El has powers" Dustin said. "he does, I holded him against the wall before he shot me but doesn't know what other things I can do with my powers so I think we're okay" El said. We all nodded. Makes sense. Just as she was about to put on the blindfold I kissed her head. I didn't care that the others saw that, she's my girl and I can do whatever I want. Of course I don't randomly kiss her cause I don't want to make them uncomfortable but I wanted to this time. Besides I kissed her forehead. "be careful okay?" I said. "okay" she said smiling at me. I got nervous. I know she can't be hurt in the void but you never know. Before she put it on she looked at us, we all hesitatently nodded. She put it on. We had to stay quiet. Lucas randomly cut the silence by opening a can of coke. We all looked at him mad I rolled my eyes. "lucas!" we all said at the same time. "sorry.." he said quietly. It's been almost a minute. El was too quiet we thought it was weird and thought something happened. "El, is everything okay?" hopper asked. "yeah" she said. "so did you find him?" hopper asked. "not yet" she said. We all looked disappointed. After a minute she found him fortunately. "I found him" El siad. "where is he, can you tell?" hopper asked. "I can't really tell where he is, I think they're hiding in a cabin in the woods" El said. We all looked at each other confused. "they? Is there Billy and someone else?" Joyce asked. "yeah.. I can't tell she's turned around, wait it's..." she said. "who is it El?" hopper asked. "Billy is with... Max's mother?" she said confused herself. My eyes widened. "what?! My mom?" I quietly yelled. They all looked at me. "she lied..." I whispered. I was holding back the tears so no one sees and worry about me. Dustin next to me must have noticed and holded my hand to comfort me. I turned to look at him, I smiled at him as a thank you. He smiled back. "what are they doing?" Jonathan and hopper asked at the same time. " They're standing and talking, Billy is holding a gun as usual and max's mother is just standing there, she looks scared I don't know why" she said. We were all nervous. Why if he took my mom with him without her permission? Or did she just lie to me and got away with him. I don't know what to believe. I was lost in my thoughts until El spoke. "max's mother beggs Billy to take her back, he must took her by force" El said. I knew it, I'm so scared. She's still my mother, I don't want her to get hurt.. or dead. "okay, we obviously don't know exactly where in the woods" Nancy said. "so he could be anywhere" Robin added. "okay, I'll call the cops and tell them to search every single place in the woods" hopper said. "wait.. They're eating something,i think it's from a gas station, the bag has '7 eleven' it" El said. "how does that matter?" lucas asked as confused as us. "dude" Robin tapped his shoulder. "it does.." Mike said. We all were still confused. "it does!! El you're a genius" Mike said shocked, surprised and excited by el's information. "what do you mean?" hopper asked. "7 eleven is a supermarket right?" Mike asked. Hopper started to catch on. "so they're probably close to that" hopper said once he realised. We all looked at each other knowing what that means. "alright El, we got it, get out of there" I said to her, tapping her shoulder.. "wait no!" El said loudly. Thank god the nurses didn't hear anything. "what's wrong?" me and the others asked. "it's your mom, he's hurting her, he grabbed her by the wrists because she wants to leave" she said trying to calm down. "that's it get out of there, we have to find him immediately before he does worse" hopper said running to get his phone from the table. "El get out of there" I said again shaking her. She finally took it off. We all sighed. Hopper was on the phone with the cops to search for every 7 eleven supermarket in town. "are you okay?" I asked El. "yeah, I'm worried for your mom" she said. "same, I hope Billy doesn't hurt her...she was scared of him you know..when he came back with blood in his hands, now he has her" I said. I couldn't hold it in anymore. Some tears fell. She noticed and grabbed my face as I looked down. She wiped them away with her thumb. "hey its okay, we'll find him and save your mom, okay? I promise, i wanna go help but hopper doesn't let me and-" I cut her off. "no no, you can't go, you're in pain and need to rest, you can't get out of the bed, I would never let you go knowing you'll be hurt? Besides, Billy wants to kill you and-" I took a breath and continued with a shaky voice. "and... I just...dont want to lose you, okay?" I managed to say. She looked at me and grabbed my hand. "hey, I won't, you won't lose me, okay? Don't worry about me" El said. "yeah I know but please let us take care of you, you're literally so strong, I'm so proud of you but at the moment, the only thing you need is rest and heal" I said still keeping eye contact. "okay, I'll try, I just want you all safe" she said. She cares so much about us that she doesn't care about herself and it hurts me. "hey" I said grabbing her face. "we are all safe, okay?" I said. She nodded. "okay" she said, starting to cry. I teared up again and stood up to carefully hug her, trying not to hurt her. She was on bed trying to reach me, but I leaned down to hug her. "I just want to hug you and cuddle you every night" she said sadly but laughing. "yeah same" I said. We smiled at each other and I sat back down. The boys and the others were in the room with us talking while we had our conversation. "you guys are literally the cutest couple l" Dustin said smiling and laughing obviously playfully mocking us. I rolled my eyes playfully. "ouch" Jonathan joked. "no we are" Nancy joked. "you're cute too but look at them, they're so in love" Robin said. They keep mocking us but we still love them haha. "yeah yeah keep mocking us, you're just jealous that you're single" I mocked them, Robin mostly. Robin faked an offened look on her face and threw a pillow El had next to her. We all laughed. Hopper suddenly came in while we were laughing. "hey, I'm gonna go help the others, Joyce can you stay with them?" hopper said. We immediately stopped laughing. "I can come with you, Nancy and the others can watch them" Joyce said. "no it's fine, I'll go I don't want any of you in danger" hopper said. I was about to say something. I obviously wanted to go with him since my own mother is in danger but as I was about to say something he cut me off. "no, max you're not coming with me, it's dangerous I understand its your mother but I want you safe, okay? I promise we'll get him as soon as possible" hopped said. I realised that it's true there's nothing I can do if I go with him
I wanted to but I can't. "but-okay, be... carful" I said quietly. They all looked at me sadly. Hopper came and hugged me tightly. "we'll get him and save your mom, okay? Stay here with the others and El, you need each other" hopper said. "okay, be safe" I told him. He pulled away and smiled at me. Then he left. El grabbed my hand to comfort me.
