Rule breaker

Summer, summer break meaning school was no longer in session. Summer came with positives and negatives, for Artemis it was mixed. He had more time for his designs, he had more time to himself and he got to go back to Lilium orphanage and see everyone again. Negatives being he went back to Lilium orphanage - he was further away from all his friends so to see them now he'd either have to get the bus or possibly train. Which was slightly expensive over time.

He just hoped next year he could get a bus pass from Monarch so he'd stop having to pay for public transport. It wasn't all bad, seeing his friends was worth it and sometimes when they made important plans that many of them were going to he'd be offered to be collected in someones car instead of a bus. But in summary it was harder to see his friends which was upsetting, yet they called and messaged regularly.

What didn't help with his new discovered loneliness is he couldn't just walk out the orphanage, if he had plans he had to ask Miss Rose if he could go out, if he couldn't afford the bus or train because cafe club was no longer running due to school being closed so his own income was low and unpredictable so often times he'd have to borrow a little money, or just walk for hours.

Miss Rose was genuinely kind, she realised Artemis was growing up and becoming independent. She loved the fact he was getting out and doing things people his age do and hanging out with people his age. She often tried to say yes to everything, however as summer continued it became harder to just say yes to everything.

Leading to their fight, they hardly argued, Artemis wasn't confrontational and Miss Rose was a very calm person so usually they wouldn't make it past raised voices before someone apologised. This time was different, Artemis and Shino had made rather last minute plans just to hang out.

When Database was alive he was almost Shino's 'guardian', despite their rough relationship sometimes Shino was almost a son to him. Database knew Shino's dad, he was a work colleague and a close friend, so when Shino's dad passed Database felt obliged to help his friend out on last time and help make sure his son was ok.

For Shino's earlier childhood he lived with Database to avoid being put into care, as Shino got older not only did him and Database argue more but Database now had children, so they compromised and Database helped Shino get his own apartment. It was small but it was enough, Shino was always grateful to database no matter how little he shown it. That was one of his regrets, he wished he thanked Database for everything he had done for him before he died.

But that apartment was still there, meaning for summer Shino wasn't on the streets. Also meaning for summer Shino's place was the designated hangout spot as it was one of the only houses that practically had no parental supervision. So they never had to worry about anyones parents saying no to about 6 people coming round, obviously there were concerns about the landlord getting annoyed to neighbours but it wasn't like they were doing anything bad, just hanging out without having to worry about intruding parents or siblings.

And that was their plan, Arti would take the bus to Shino's apartment and just stay until an ungodly hour in the night, he couldn't lie it had been a while since Artemis had seen Shino just the two of them, sure they hung out but they hadn't been on a date since the first week of summer. Neither of them could afford anything extravagant like a gorgeous dinner under candle-light, yet just relaxing at Shino's seemed perfect.

Perfect until Miss Rose's and Artemis's fight. Surprisingly, he couldn't go. Miss Rose had said no. "I don't want you out that late at night Artemis." She excused "I can't afford the bus for you" She deflected, "Shino can drive! I can ask him to pick me up!" Artemis compromised, desperate to see his boyfriend after what felt like years.
