Chapter 65:
A pair of sinister, yellow eyes maliciously glared into mine, flecks of flickering indigo embers reflected within them. The air was thick with the acrid scent of burning, the metallic tang of blood, and the gritty dust that seemed to choke me as I gasped for air. My surroundings were a chaotic blur, and I teetered on the precipice of consciousness. Beastly claws constricted and clutched around my body, their sharp points digging into my waist, drawing blood with each agonizing grip.
Was I.. going to die? An overwhelming surge of anxiety churned in my stomach, as if it were filled with a growing sense of dread and impending doom. I struggled to breathe, and my body ached all over, rendering me utterly helpless. It felt as though I might actually... die.
But then... a name, whose name? I couldn't quite remember, but I could feel the sound of it echoing somewhere deep in my mind.
It was an important name, I needed to shout it, to scream it, to ensure that they heard. That's what I needed to do. If I did that, I wouldn't die. If they could hear me call their name, no matter where they were, no matter how far, as long as they could hear, they would come. But who? Who would come? I wasn't entirely sure.
Summoning every ounce of strength, I let out a bloodcurdling scream. However, the sound of my own voice felt muffled, as if it had been audibly blurred. I couldn't discern what it was I was screaming, but I somehow had a feeling, a sense, as though I knew, I'd just called out the name that I couldn't remember.
Then, I could hear it —the resounding blasts soaring through the air, echoing from afar. The clamor intensified relentlessly and aggressively, growing in magnitude followed by a sudden, mesmerising light, it was pretty.. so pretty. I found myself smiling through all the pain because the blinding light said it all, they were here - whoever they were.
There was a deafening bang, and I felt myself plummet toward the ground. But before I could hit the bottom, something or someone gracefully caught me, interrupting my thoughts of dying.
I looked up to meet the gaze of my rescuer but before I could-
My body jolted up abruptly and I was awake, panting, sweating and confused as hell. The dream's remnants lingering in my mind, leaving me with a sense of unease.
What the hell was that about? Who was- What was their name? Why did they save me? What.. happened?
The dream felt very real, too real.. But I shook my thoughts away from it.
I practically rolled out of bed and sluggishly made my way to the other side of the room, to put my school uniform on. The weekend just gone had been a nice relaxing break. I spent most of it unwinding, taking a respite from my studies, and hanging out with friends. Mina treated me to some bubble tea on Saturday, which was really fun. I didn't get to see many of my other friends, but did catch up with Bakugou and some of the other guys when they returned from skateboarding.
Kaminari suggested that we all join them next time so they can flaunt their cool new tricks. I'm looking forward to that. According to Bakugou, Dunce face is the worst skater of the three, always stumbling like an idiot, but he doesn't hold himself back. I can just imagine how entertaining it'll be to watch.
After a quick brush through my hair and a light touch of makeup, I hurried downstairs to join my friends for the walk to school. Naturally, I was running late, as usual, and had to dash from the dorms to catch up with them.
"Mina!" I called out, spotting her distinctive pastel pink hair glistening in the morning sun.
"Y/N!" She cheered, turning around, with a few other familiar faces also turning to greet me.
