For a while, I just sat there, the quiet wrapping around me like a worn blanket. His words still lingered in the air, softening something heavy inside me. I felt... lighter. Not fixed, but lighter.
I let the silence settle. Let myself breathe.
But after a few moments, I pushed thoughts of Todoroki—and Katsuki—aside. They could wait. Right now, someone else pulled at my heart more strongly than either of them.My mother.
My real mother.
I needed to remind myself of who I was, where I came from, and that I still had someone who loved me unconditionally.
I closed my eyes, pulling her memory closer, summoning her image like a prayer. Not her face, exactly, but the house—our house. I pictured the lounge—our lounge—the way it used to be. The soft, sagging couch by the window, the faded rug with that stubborn stain nobody could ever clean, the photos crowding the mantle, each frame a small piece of our life together. I let the image fill every corner of my mind, warm and achingly vivid.
When I opened my eyes, the walls around me were no longer my dorm room.
The soft hum of the television filled the room as I teleported into the lounge, the faint golden glow of the firelight mixing with the muted blue hues of the screen. The familiar scent of home wrapped around me as I stepped further into the lounge.
My mom sat curled up on the sofa, wrapped in her favorite blanket, her expression serene as she watched something
lighthearted. The scene was so warm, so normal. Yet, I just stood there, feeling like an intruder in this tranquil moment. She noticed me almost instantly, sitting up with, her eyes widening in surprise—and then softening with love. "Y/N?" she called.
I could barely bring myself to speak, my throat tightening with emotion. "Mom..." I whispered, the word heavy in my mouth, strange and foreign after everything I'd learned last night.
Her eyes scanned me, widening as she took in the state I was in—still wearing Bakugou's hoody, messy hair, and red, swollen eyes.
"What are you doing home?" she asked, her tone quickly shifting to concern. "Is everything alright? You look..."
The worry in her face broke me. My lips trembled as I struggled to keep my composure, the weight of last night pressing down on me.
"I... I just wanted to see you," I mumbled, barely managing to push the words out.
Her brow furrowed as she leaned forward, her hands twitching slightly as though she wanted to reach for me but was unsure.
"Sweetie, what's going on?"
I swallowed hard, gathering the courage to speak the words that had been sitting on the tip of my tongue since the moment I'd arrived. "Mom..." I began, my voice shaking.
"I know."
The words hit her like a blow, and I watched the recognition bloom in her eyes. She froze, her breath catching as though she had been bracing for this moment her entire life. Her expression wavered between discomfort and sorrow, her lips parting as though to say something, but no words came.
"I know everything," I repeated, my voice firmer this time.
She exhaled shakily, her hands gripping the edge of the blanket as she shifted to sit upright. "Y/N..." she whispered, her voice soft and apologetic. "You know..."
I nodded, tears welling in my eyes. "Even if I know... you'll always be my mom, right?" The words were so small, so fragile, that I barely recognized my own voice.
