As we walked down the street together, the cityscape bustled with citizens as lunch hour was approaching. The morning's briefing at Endeavor's agency had been tiring and slightly boring, leaving us all in a state of quiet. Todoroki walked slightly ahead, his eyes distant as he reflected on last missions events, while Kirishima strolled beside him, animatedly recounting a story of one of the fights he had alongside Phantom. Bakugou, as usual, was slightly apart from the group, he walked behind, his hands buried into his pockets and his gaze fixed ahead with a look of determined focus.Beside me, Midoriya looked contemplative, the gears in his mind visibly turning as he processed the day's briefing. Suddenly, he turned to me with a concerned expression, breaking the silence that had settled between us.
"How are you handling everything?" he asked softly, his voice filled with genuine concern. "I know it's been a lot lately."
His question stirred something within me, bringing back memories of his kindness and support during our last mission. I remembered how he put my mind at ease when I still didn't have my memories. How he offered support when I felt scared and overwhelmed, and how he promised that I'd be okay. His words acted as a comforting balm to my anxieties when I felt so lost and alone. Gratitude welled up inside me, and before I could think, I stepped closer and pulled him into a short embrace.
"Midoriya," I began, my voice filled with affection. "I wanted to thank you. You helped me feel so much better during our last mission. Your support meant a lot to me you know?"
Midoriya stiffened momentarily in surprise but quickly relaxed, a soft blush spreading across his cheeks. He patted my back awkwardly, clearly touched but a bit flustered by the sudden display of affection. His eyes darted around as if to gauge the reaction of the others, but before either of us could say more, the air around us shifted.
A sharp crackle of small explosions disrupted the moment, drawing all eyes to the explosive blonde. He stood with sparks dancing in his palms, his face a mask of irritation and something more—a deep-seated frustration that seemed to burn beneath his skin. His eyes locked onto the sage haired boy, the intensity of his gaze causing unease.
"Kacchan?" Midoriya questioned, his voice a mixture of surprise and concern. He quickly let go of me, taking a small step back as if suddenly aware of the tension in the air.
Bakugou's scowl deepened, his jaw clenched tightly. "Damn Deku", he snapped, his voice a low growl with a barely controlled anger. He stormed ahead, barging into Midoriya's shoulder, a clear sign of annoyance.
Todoroki and Kirishima, who had been quietly observing the exchange, shifted uncomfortably. Todoroki's eyes flicked between Bakugou and Midoriya, his expression unreadable, while Kirishima's usually cheerful demeanor faltered, replaced by a concerned frown.
"Hey, come on, Bakugou," Kirishima interjected, trying to diffuse the tension with his usual optimism. "No need to get all riled up,"
Bakugou glared at Kirishima but said nothing more, his fists still crackling with residual energy. He continued to walk ahead, putting distance between himself and the rest of the group. The atmosphere felt different, a mixture of unspoken words and unresolved emotions hanging heavy in the air.
Midoriya offered me a small, apologetic smile, his eyes reflecting a complex mix of emotions—guilt, confusion, and a hint of sadness. It was clear that maybe it wasn't just about the embrace; there was a deeper tension, a long-standing history that weighed on both him and Bakugou.
I decided to walk a bit faster to catch up to the explosive blonde, who continued to walk away from the rest of us. Once I finally managed to catch up to him, I quickly asked, "Everything alright?"
