You grumbled when you heard your phone ring. "Goddamn it!" You mumbled angrily before shaking sleep off. You looked at the caller ID and your face immediately lit up. "Sam!" You answered.
"Hey Y/N..." Sam sounded so...morbid. Sam was sad. Your heart dropped. Dean. Dean Winchester.
"Sam. What happened to Dean? Is he alright? Is he...dead?" You asked, your voice choking.
"No...Just...just come to the bunker as soon as you can."
"Sam...is it...is it the Mark?" You heard a sigh on the other line. "Is Dean...did he go back to-back to being-"
"No. No...but Y/N...remember Jimmy Novak and his daughter Claire?"You got off the bed immediately and ran into the bathroom(but quickly decided against the shower) after Sam finished telling you what happened. You were out and 'ready' in a matter of minutes and you ran out to your car without bothering to check out of the motel.
You almost broke the door open before Sam opened it.
"Hey..." Sam whispered and pulled you into a hug.
You returned the embrace and whispered a hey back..
"He-I thought you'd calm him down. He-he's waiting for you. It's the first time I've seen him smile since-since that day. Why don't you come in?" Sam moved from the door to let you in. You walked down the stairs in silence. Your eyes looked around for Dean and you spotted him, walking back from the kitchen. You ran to him, almost instantly enveloping him in a tight hug. You took him in. All of him. The smell of his cologne and leather jacket, the warmth of his embrace, the feel of his skin against yours, his hair ruffling at your neck, the strength in his arms. You took it all in, because you were afraid you weren't going to have another chance. Because you were afraid, that Dean wouldn't be there for you to get a second chance. You didn't even know what was wrong, but you were so afraid of losing him. Dean meant everything to you. Everything. You didn't know if he felt the same way about you, but you didn't care. You were in love with Dean Winchester. He was a hero; a good, righteous man. But he was also so much more than that. He was caring and sweet, charming and flirty, goofy and smart; he was perfection personified. At least to you, he was.
"Hey there..." He whispered. "You alright?" You were crushing his bones, but you didn't care. You nodded into his neck and tears rolled down your eyes before you could even contemplate your emotions. "Hey...it's okay. Shhhh..." You hugged him tighter and sobbed harder, letting him calm you down.
"You're not...you're not going to leave me, right?" You asked.
"What?" He looked at you, concerning in his eyes.
"Dean...promise me you won't leave me." You pleaded.
"Y/N..."
"Just. Promise me, Dean." He nodded and kissed your temple. You turned around, conscious that Sam was in the same room only to realize that the taller Winchester had left. You smiled at his thoughtfulness and looked back at Dean, a smile playing at your lips. "So...what's up?" You tried to sound casual which elicited a laugh from Dean.
"Wow that was a change of conversation topics." You chuckled. "I've been...busy...hunting." His voice trailed off.
"Hey..." You touched his cheek. He looked at you, confused and a pained expression on his face.
"I killed them, Y/N. I'm a stone cold killer." He looked at you for a long second. "Why're you here?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, why are you here? Why are you with me? I'm going to hurt you. I'm going to end up hurting you. I'm a monster, Y/N. I mean, there was a time when I was a hunter. But I'm not one. Not anymore." He walked away from you and you'd never felt so incomplete in your life. In a few quick strides, you were outside Dean's room.
"Dean?" You asked. Dean looked up at you and nodded and you were next to him in a matter of seconds. "Hey...you're not a monster. You're a hero, Dean." He chuckled dryly and shook his head. You ran your hand down his back. "You are. And you know what? You're not just my hero. You're Sam's hero. You know the hundreds of people you saved? You're their hero too, Dean. You're Castiel's hero. I'm sure. I mean, I've never met him, but I'm sure you are." Dean laughed this time.
"Yeah, I don't think its the same anymore. They're all scared about what I'm going to do. You're scared about what I'm going to do because of the Mark."
"Do you want to know something? I'm not worried about what you're going to do. Heck, I don't care about what you're going to do. But what I am worried about, Dean, is what the mark is going to do to you. Because I know, I know that you're going to get out of this mess, Dean. But I'm worried about how you're going to blame yourself for this."
"It is my fault."
"Dean Winchester, don't you dare say that. This is not your fault. You killed those men because of the Mark of Cain. And honestly? They deserved to die, Dean. What they were going to do to Claire? That wasn't right Dean. They deserved it."
"Killing them is different from a massacre."
"I'm not saying its the same thing Dean. But what I am saying is, don't beat yourself up for killing them. And that we'll get out of this-whatever it is. And you'll go back to do doing what you do best. Do you know what that is?"Dean shook his head. "Being a badass hunter. Back to being a hero." You chuckled. Dean smiled at you.
"Thanks, Y/N." He stared at you with adoration written all over his face. "You calm me down, you know that? You-you give me hope." He shuffled his feet. "Looking at you, I feel like there's hope for me. Like I have a chance. A chance at happens. Like I deserve-deserve to be loved." You stroked your hand over his cheek and leaned forward, eyes closed. Dean barely met your lips, but he also didn't let go of you. You opened your eyes for a brief second to see a tear roll down Dean's eye. You smiled as Dean pulled back. "Was-was that okay?" He asked. You nodded and flashed the brightest smile you could conjure at him. He hugged you, burying his face into your neck, ghosting his lips over your bare skin. You ran your hands through his hair.
"Sing for me." He asked, pecking your jaw. You chuckled.
"You'll go deaf."
"Its worth the risk. Please." He moved up a little and kissed your ear. You thought about it for a while before letting your voice free.
"Hey Jude, don't be afraid. Take a sad song and make it better..." You tried to sound as soothing as possible for Dean, but what you didn't realize was you could be scream for all he cared. The fact that you were there, hugging him, telling him he was worth it was enough for him. More than enough. It was, truly a dream come true. A Miracle.
