The front door slams as you listen to the end of Sam's message. Heart pounding in your chest, you back away out of the hall and into the dark kitchen. There are footsteps coming through the entryway. You cover your mouth with your hand to suppress all of the emotions welling up.

For months, you had been striving to keep Dean with you. Sure, it hasn't been easy. There have been days when you fear there is no bringing him back. There are times he has frightened you. But you can't give up on him. He would do the same for you.

"Y/N?"

You clench your eyes against the sound of his voice. It's not Dean. You've convinced yourself over time that while it's Dean's body and voice, it's not Dean anymore. He has been replaced by this evil creature.

"Come on, babe. Where are you?"

Sam had left a message just a few moments ago, warning you that Dean had escaped. He'd beaten his younger brother up pretty bad, so there was very little chance Sam would be of any help to you. At least he had been able to give you a warning.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are."

You back up till you bump against one of the kitchen counters. Reaching behind, you grasp a bottle of holy water. No other weapon works against him, but maybe this will slow him down should it get violent.

The kitchen door swings open and smacks the wall. Dean stands in the doorway, his black eyes shining in the darkness.

"You know you can't hide from me."

"Dean, you need to fight this. This isn't you."

His head tilts to one side. "That's where you're wrong. This is me. I'm still the same sorry, evil SOB that you fell in love with. Really, Y/N, a hunter?"

"Stop, this isn't you."

"Out of all the guys, you had to pick the hunter. The guy who hunts monsters for a living."

"Stop, Dean." Tears are spilling down your cheeks.

"Awe, this makes you sad. Because you miss what you thought you had? Or because you now realize that I never actually loved you?"

A sob wells up in your throat and you clench the bottled holy water tighter.

"Because, I'm gonna tell you a little secret." In a whoosh, Dean is close your ear, whispering, "I only feel sorry for you. You call it love, but sweetheart, I was only trying to be your big brother."

With a cry, you douse him with the holy water and give him a shove that sends him into the middle of the room. He groans and grunts as the water sizzles at his flesh. He sends you a deadly glare and charges.

Dean hits an invisible force and stumbles backwards. He glances up and sees the Devil's trap painted on the ceiling. You set the empty bottle down on the counter and cross your arms in front of you.

"Go ahead, laugh at the girl loved too easily."

Dean starts to smile, then chuckles softly as he looks at you.

"Think this will hold me? How do you think I escaped from Sam? You can't keep me here, Y/N."

"Listen to me, Dean, you need to fight this. This isn't you. You would never do any of this."

"Blah, blah, blah."

"After all these years, I think I'd know you by now. This isn't you. You need to fight this thing. Sam needs you; I need you."

"Y/N, enough."

"Dean, come on, sweetie." You're crying now, but it doesn't matter. You're focused on Dean's black eyes, watching him shift nervously. "Come back to me.
