You were sitting there, against a tree with your knees pulled up to your chest and your arms resting on them with your fingers joined together. You stared forward with a blank expression on your face but your emotions were evident by the streams of tears running down your face.
Your parents never fought, that's why you were so shocked when they began fighting, even to the point of your father throwing things at the walls, even you. You were terrified. You didn't want to go back home ever.
"What'cha doin'?" A voice rang out from behind your right side. You slowly swiveled your head to look up to your side to see a boy standing beside you. He had a goofy smile on his face and his dusty golden hair was spiked up wildly in all direction. But his smile quickly faded when he noticed you were crying. Why was this kid even out in the woods this late at night?
"Woah, are you okay?" He asked with evident concern, kneeling down beside you.
You huffed slightly with a sarcastic laugh and shrugged, looking to your hands that were extended in front of you. "And you are?" You asked him as nicely as possible while wiping the tears from under your eyes and down your cheeks.
"I-I'm Liam. But why are you crying?" He asked, examining your face intently for any signs of what could be wrong.
"Just a bad night at home." You shrugged, pursing your lips. "Why are you randomly walking around the woods at nearly midnight?"
Liam paused for a moment as his eyes averted to the sky to stare at the full moon that softly lit the paths through the trees. He smiled softly, more to himself, before looking back down at you. You were looking at him with a curious smile on your face. He pointed up to the moon and raised his eyebrows. "I'm a werewolf." He said with his same goofy smile on his face. Your smile spread into a full grin as you laughed, leading Liam into laughter as well.
What you didn't realize was he was completely serious but he knew you wouldn't believe him.
You were standing at your locker at school, pushing you chemistry book into it but suddenly you were blinded by two hands snaking around your head and covering your eyes. "Liam, I know it's you." You said with a laugh as you grabbed his hands, pulling them from your face. You shut your locker and turned around to face him.
"Scott cancelled the pack meeting today, so I was thinking maybe we could watch a movie at your house or something." Liam said. You smiled and shrugged. You had found out about the supernatural world not long after meeting Liam, and that's when you had recalled the night you met him, so oblivious to his obvious confession that seemed like such a joke.
"I was actually thinking we could go walk through the woods tonight or something." You said, smiling at him with an innocent smile.
Liam raised an eyebrows as he smiled slyly at you. "And why would we do that?" He asked with a hint of understanding in his face.
"Well, a year ago today a very friendly boy found me a complete mess in those same woods and reassured me everything would be okay. He even took me in at some points. And he somehow even made me laugh." You said while Liam stared at you with amusement.
"Is that so? Well, can I meet this boy?" Liam asked playfully, wrapping his arms around your waists.
"Eh, I don't know. He's a little bit annoying." You said, taunting Liam. He gave you a puppy dog frown as his hands dropped from your touch.
"[Y/N], I'm not annoying." He said, trying to defend his character. You smirked before laughing, wrapping your arms around his torso tightly.
"Of course you're not, you idiot." You said, resting your head on his shoulder. He smiled brightly before wrapping his arms around you to complete the embrace.
"I think I can make that walk in the woods happen." Liam said, pulling his head back as you did the same. He had his signature goofy smile on his face that never failed to make you smile.
"Oh just kiss already, god damn!" A voice rang from down the hall. You head snapped to the side as you and Liam quickly pulled away. Stiles was down the hall, rolling his eyes.
"Shut up, Stiles!" You shouted, feeling the burning heat rise in your cheeks as you hung you head down to hide the blush from Liam who was just laughing at the situation. You heard a knock from the door while sitting in the kitchen. You were alone since your mother had gone out, knowing she had the opportunity to since you would be gone for the evening as well. As for your father, he's been gone since that night Liam found you in the woods.
You stood from your chair and skipped into the living room, opening the front door to see Liam standing there with his hands in his pockets.
"Hey." He said with a bright smile while rocking back and forth on his toes and heels. You giggled and signaled him inside.
"You know, Liam, we don't actually have to go to the woods." You said, watching him disappear into the kitchen, probably to get a drink.
"But I want to." He said, popping back out with a glass of water at his lips.
"Okay." You laughed, shrugging your shoulders. You ran upstairs, leaving Liam downstairs, while you went retrieve your jacket. When you came back down, Liam was waiting at the door. You exchanged warm smiles as you walked passed Liam out the door, leaving him to shut it. He caught up to you and wrapped his arm around your shoulder.
"You know, I never told you this, but it was kind of stupid to just run into the woods in the middle of the night." Liam teased, walking you both across the street straight into the trees that created a dreary wall across from your house.
"Yeah, I know. But I wasn't really thinking. I just wanted to get out of the house. And I didn't have anyone to go to." You shrugged, watching your feet as you and Liam stepped over fallen branches from the trees hanging overheard.
Liam pursed his lips and sighed, looking forward. "Well, now you have me. And you know that." Liam's grip tightened around your shoulder, making you smile softly.
You both continued walking in silence, simply enjoying each other's company until Liam stopped you abruptly. "Liam, what's wrong?" You asked, turning to look at him. A large smile spread across his face and he lifted his hands to gesture to his surroundings.
"Recognize anything?" He asked, specifically pointing to the tree right beside your bodies. You let you eyes wander your surroundings for a bit, intaking the scene until you turned back to Liam. You shrugged, shaking your head timidly, ashamed for not remembering anything.
Liam chuckled and placed his hands on your hips, moving you to press you against the aforementioned tree, making your heartbeat begin to speed. "Liam..."
"This is where we first met." His voice was dropped an octave lower as he spoke quietly to you. "At this very tree." Liam said, his face very slowly inching towards your.
Your eyes scanned pass him again and that's when you really started to recognize the scene from the angle you remembered. Your head swiveled to your right as you remembered Liam standing in the spot behind your shoulder. You smiled unintentionally before looking back at him but you were quickly caught off guard by Liam's lips pressing to yours gently.
You gasped against his lips as your hands instinctively moved up to his cheeks. They were hot to the touch. Scorching really. And you could only imagine that yours were just as heated. Liam's hands moved from your hips to place themselves on the tree at each side of your head as your lips worked together in a perfect rhythm. Your body was burning with fire as Liam stepped closer to you. You couldn't believe how right the kiss felt. Never did you think kissing your best friend would be something that was meant to happen...until now.
All kinds of thoughts started flowing through your head. From the moment you first met to all of the sleepovers you had together when your mom was home wasted. You even thought about the times you two would walking around holding hands together, disregarding the many looks you got. Maybe Liam never was just your best friend. Maybe he was always more and it was hidden under his innocent and goofy demeanor.
One of Liam's hands trailed into your hair tenderly, making shivers run through your body while his tongue swiped over your bottom lip. You inhaled and parted your lips, letting his tongue slip into your mouth. Your fingers pressed gently into his skin as you tried to pull his face even closer to yours, as if that was possible.
You felt tears of happiness burning your closed eyes as you shared your most passionate kiss ever with your best friend. This was it. This was your own Neverland. And Liam was your savior. Your Peter Pan.
