"We need to do something about Harry and Y/N, they are going to drive me mental I tell you, mental!" Ron exclaimed to Hermione as they entered the Gryffindor Common Room together.
"I know Ronald, but we've got to let them figure it out by themselves, we can't force them into anything they don't wa–," Hermione said before she was interrupted by Ron's ranting.
"No, it is obvious that they want to be together, it's probably just self-denial on both sides. That's what I reckon—speaking of the devils." Ron said the last part in a whisper because you and Harry were entering the common room, hand in hand.
"Hey Ron, hey Hermione, how are you guys?" you said cheerily, with an equally happy smile plastered on your face. You were oblivious to Harry as he glued his green eyes to one side of your face, basking in the rays that your wonderful smile gave off.
"Nothing much, just heaps of homework, as usual," Hermione said with a huff, obviously overworked by the load of assignments the professors gave fourth-year students close to the end of the term. "And to think people are worrying about that stupid Yule Ball," she said in an angry whisper, not wanting to be heard, but you heard her clearly. The mention of the upcoming Yule Ball set off a light bulb in your brain, maybe, just maybe, Harry could be the one to ask you. You decided to drop some hints.
"Oh so who's the lucky girl you're taking to the ball Harry, is it Cho?" you questioned, whilst clutching his arm suggestively. He looked quite flustered as his cheeks began to turn a light shade of crimson.
"Oh, uh no, she's going with Cedric," He said, with a bummed look on his face. Now was your time to act.
"Oh, well that blows, anyone you're going with right now?"
"Oh yeah, um, Ron and I are going with the Patil twins. I'm going with Pavarti. She's nice and all, but, unfortunately, wasn't the girl I wanted to go with."
Now, feeling extremely disappointed you asked, "And who is that if I may ask?"
"Uh, no one, don't worry about it. She's great, though, someday if it does work out between us, I'd love you to meet her. Since you're my best friend after all." He said whilst stuttering profusely. Best friend. That's all you were ever going to be, afraid that your sadness was showing, you quickly changed the subject. Little did you know that Ron and Hermione already noticed.
"Yeah Harry, I hope it works out. Anyways Hermione who are you going with," as soon as you asked her she turned as red as a tomato.
"Uh, well I. No, just. Well," she stuttered uncontrollably while trying to hide her face around her pile of textbooks.
"Oooh... Hermione got a date. Hermione got a date." You said, teasing her in a sing-song voice. Ron immediately became disinterested with his game of wizard chess and soon engaged himself into the conversation.
"You? Hermione? A date? No, that just doesn't add up does it." Said and irritated Ron.
"Well, a matter of fact I do Ronald." Hermione shot back.
"Go on. Who is it then?"
"Its Victor Krum, the quidditch player from Durmstrang School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," She said very proudly.
"Oh, well whatever," Ron muttered, losing his energy immediately only to gain it back in a matter of seconds, "He's probably using you anyways, don't you think he's a bit too old for you, and I thought you were smart Hermione–." He was cut off by a very angry Hermione.
"Shut up Ron! Shut up! Can't you just be happy for me for once! Is that too hard!" She began angrily gathering her things up from the table, preparing to leave, "Oh and, by the way, Ronald, you are not the boss of me." She said the last part filled with venom and stormed out of the common room with you following her, feeling the exact same emotions.

You were staring at the sky at the Astronomy Tower silently with Hermione when you felt a light tap on your shoulder. You turned around, half expecting it to be Harry, only just to see Dean Thomas. Feeling semi-disappointed, you greeted Dean.
"Oh, hey Dean, what's up?"
"Oh, uh nothing much. I just uh, c—came here to ask whether you were going with anyone to the... the... the."
"The Yule Ball?" you interrupted.
"Y—yes."
"Oh! No, I'm not going with anyone Dean, why do you ask?"
"I was just wondering if, uh, you would like to go with me to the Ball. I mean you don't have to because you know, it's your ch–." You interrupted him.
"Dean I would love to go to the Ball with you. Pick me up outside the Gryffindor Common Room by 5 p.m.?"
"Yes!" Trying, and failing to keep calm and collected he ran bak to the castle while fist pumping the air. You were 100% sure he was going to go tell Seamus the news of you accepting his invitation.
"Boys," you sighed, obviously annoyed with the opposite gender.
"I know. Like cmon why are they so confusing. Anyways Y/N?" Hermione questioned
"Yes, Hermione."
"I know you like Harry."
"What!" terrified that your secret was revealed you proceeded to try and make excuses, "What? Me? No, pfft, gross. We're best friends. This is not some cliché love story Hermione. Me and Harry are strictly platonic, we're only friends. Okay, now it's time to head back into the castle. Bye Hermione."
With that, you rushed back into the castle. You rushed back to the girls dormitory to collect your thoughts. You lay down on your bed thinking: What if I do like Harry? You pushed your thoughts to the back of your mind and fell asleep quickly.
