My eyes cracked open in the dim light of the morning. It was still pretty dark, being around 5 a.m. I stretched out a bit, not feeling the familiar weight and warmth of my husband next to me. Blinking sleepily, I got up and made my way down the hall to the nursery. I didn't hear a sound as I approached the crib, looking in it to find my five month old son gone. Pursing my lips, I walked out and toward the living room, listening carefully.
"...and all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse," I heard my husband's voice say softly. A grinned when my eyes landed on Derek and Jack, sitting together in the large recliner. Derek had Jack in his lap, a book in front of them. He kept glancing down to see our son's reaction every time he read a page. Jack loved books. He kept smiling and giggling every time Derek would finish a sentence or turn a page. I stayed like that, just watching him read to our son, for awhile, not wanting to break the moment. Once the story was finished, Derek picked Jack up and held him to his chest, walking around the living room.
"Good morning," I told them softly, knowing Derek would hear my footsteps before my voice. "Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas, Mommy," Derek said, turning Jack to look at me. I smiled as his little blue eyes found mine, a happy gurgle coming out of his mouth. He reached his arms out and I took him happily.
"Did you like the story Daddy told you?" I cooed, bouncing my son gently. Derek stood and grinned at us, placing a kiss to my forehead. Jack giggled, playing with some of my hair. "When did he get up?"
"Just about 45 minutes ago. I gave him a bottle and he was happy as could be," Derek told me. I nodded and we sat down on the couch all together.
"When do you want to do presents?" I asked, looking over at our full Christmas tree. The soft glow filling our living room was absolutely beautiful.
"Whenever you want to, honey," Derek said, running a hand through my hair. "I think someone needs a new diaper. Here, I'll go change him if you want to go ahead and start sorting some of the gifts?"
"Sure." I handed Jack over with a smile and Derek carried him back to his nursery. I started a pot of coffee before kneeling in front of the tree and separating the presents. Jack had a huge pile containing presents from Derek and I, as well as the other pack members. I set those aside, deciding to go ahead and wait until they came over later so they could see his reaction when they were opened.
"There, all better!" Derek announced, bouncing Jack on his hip as they came back, both grinning. He handed me the baby and I set him in between my outstretched legs on the floor. "We ready to open some?"
"I think so," I answered, kissing our son before grabbing a package and placing it in front of him. His eyes were wide with curiosity as I tore the paper for him, letting him play with scraps. Derek watched us happily, his green eyes lit up with love.
Once Jack's presents were finished, Derek and I opened a few of ours that we had gotten each other, exchanging kisses and thanks after every package. Jack was starting to get fussy, so I took him back to his room and laid him down for a nap. He fell asleep almost instantly and I smiled down at his perfect little face. He looked so much like Derek. He had his dark hair and his facial structure. A pair of hands slid around my waist, pulling me back against a firm chest. I let out a content sigh, closing my eyes as I laid my head on Derek's shoulder.
"This is so perfect," he whispered in my ear. I smiled and looked up and him, seeing the joy in his features. "I love you so much, Y/N."
"I love you, too, Der," I told him, reaching up to place my lips on his softly.
