Was it a smart idea? No probably not. Was it the best idea that I had come up with at that time? Yep, well maybe if I had an hour or so I could maybe come up with a better plan. So the plan was I grew wings and fly out of the sunroof. Nah just kidding. My plan was to open the door while on this road and hurl myself out of the car at breakneck speed, well about 60mph.
It still wasn't my ideal plan. Why did I need to do this, you may be asking yourself. Well, I was being kidnapped. Technically it was my fault, but still, it wasn't fair. I had come out of the Broadway Musical Dear Even Hansen, and I was looking for my uber driver. I accidentally got into the wrong car, but by the time I noticed the person driving already handcuffed my hands.
So here I am just looking out a window at the snowy ground, trying to figure out how to pick the lock on the door. It wasn't as simple as lifting one of those locks or pushing a button. The people had managed to put a pin code in, so now I had to guess more than 100 combinations. Well, it could be worse, actually no it couldn't.
After thirty minutes of trying to hack the pin password, I finally got it. I looked up and saw a snow bank about a minute away. Now or never, I thought. I swung open the door and thrust myself out. I felt weightless for about thirty seconds before, KERPLUNK, I landed in the snow bank. I started to run as fast as I could into the woods. It wasn't safe in the open, so I needed somewhere to hide and free these shackles. I looked around but nothing is inside. I kept running trying to find a town or city or something. My wrists were freezing and my body shivered constantly. I wasn't prepared for this, and now I was going to die. I slowed down into a brisk walk, trying not to exert any energy than needed. I was far enough from the road that it didn't matter if I had slowed down from a run to a walk.
I looked at the sky and saw that I only had two hours before sunset. I needed to set up a camp and start a fire, or else I was doomed. Then a light snow began to fall. This was amazing for two reasons. One it covered my tracks so that I could travel undetected. Secondly, I just love snow, who doesn't? I finally found a scrap of metal and cut my wrists free. When I looked down at them, they were bloody from all of the runnings. This wasn't good because wild animals could smell blood and come eat me, yay!
I wanted to find some town by nightfall, but the chances of that were extremely small.
About an hour before sunset, I had set up a little camp. I used evergreen branches to create a teepee shape hut. It wasn't long-term, but it was good enough for the night. I had to create fire now. I grabbed some fallen branches and dug up some snow until I reached the ground. I created a small circle and rubbed sticks together until sparks flew. By that time, the night was upon me, and I could hear coyotes howl in the distance. I was terrified, sure, but I still somehow fell asleep.
*dream, a bit graphic*
"HELP PLEASE" I screamed terrified. Blood was streaming from my hand, and I couldn't stop it. I tried to press on the wound, but it still wouldn't stop. Pain flooded my body and I released a blood-curdling scream. Needles shot up my arm and I released a flood of tears. It hurt too much to move, but I knew it was the only way to survive.
I look around the dark grey room, trying to see anyone that could help me. I screamed again in pain, but this time a man ran toward me. His eyes bore into mine, as I laid there helplessly. When he finally got to me, he just stared into space. When he finally looked down, he spoke. "Find James Barnes, seek his guidance. For as you only have mortal wounds, his reach deep into his soul."
*end of dream*
I wake up with a start. It was about seven in the morning, and surprisingly I wasn't frostbitten. I brushed away the evergreen branches, collected my things, and kept walking. About an hour in, I saw a paved road. When I reach the edge of the snow and road, I could see a tiny town the distance. As much as I wanted to run to it, I knew it would take hours if not days to reach it.
About noon, I was halfway there. I could hear distant cars on different roads. I kept walking until I reached the outskirts of town. I walked into the nearest open market and picked up food. I hungrily ate it and washed it down with warm hot chocolate. I decided that I should get a job for the time being so that I could earn some money. I walked around town trying to find an open position. When I reached a little cafe, I saw a small written sign saying help wanted.
I walked in and immediately smelled fresh bread and muffins. I walked to a cashier and explained my problem, well as much as I could without saying that people kidnapped me. They took me in the back to meet the power, a small lady who looked about sixty.
"Hello dear," she said.
"Hello, My name is y/n and I wanted to apply for a position here. I got lost and I have nowhere to go. I don't want to pressure you much, but if you gave me room and board, I could work here." I said hopefully.
"Oh, that's fine. Do you know how to bake any pastries or bread" she asked
"I could try, my father worked in a bakery for some time," I say
"Okay then, I will show you your room when the cafe closes. Until then, let's get you to meet the head chef." She says, guiding me to the back.
She opens the door and there stands the man from my dreams. Wait that sounds wrong, from my nightmare.
His shoulder length hair was pulled into a low ponytail and he was working hard kneading bread. He looked up from it for a second and stared at me mystified. He breaks out of his trance and approaches me.
"Hi, my name is..." He says.
"James Barnes," I say in awe.
"And you must be y/n," he says.
I turn to ask the lady a question, but she disappeared.
"You're from- " I began to speak.
"My dream, well nightmare " He finishes "Let's get to work and then I will explain everything"
