Vivian knew how to deal with stress, after all, she worked in the emergency department. Every day she saw something new. Today was another one of those days where one unexpected event happened after the next.

Nevertheless, she didn't allow herself to lose her cool. Her day had started more than well.

She had another one of her 'parent meetings' with Siobhan this morning. She had really grown fond of the blonde.

Vivian was hoping for more than just friendship from her, but what was the best way to approach the whole thing?

Siobhan was not only in a relationship. She was in a relationship with one of the richest and most influential men in the city.

But Vivian saw through the façade of this partnership. Siobhan wanted to get out of it, but couldn't at the moment. The nurse had a dark suspicion that it was a case of control and manipulation.

One thing was certain, she would continue to meet with her and try to help her.

Vivian was currently enjoying her break in the nurses' room. From here she could still see what was happening on the ward. Some of her colleagues came in, drank or ate something quickly and disappeared again. What's more, the door to the break room was always open.

Vivian was drinking her tea and reading an article in the newspaper, when one of her colleagues rushed in.

Her blue work clothes were soaked in red and her latex gloves were also smeared with it.

"Viv! We have an emergency and need all hands!"

The black-haired woman immediately jumped up and ran after her colleague.

They arrived in front of the trauma room and Vivian could already see the surgeon making his way to the operating theatre, which was right next door.

Vivian quickly put on gloves at the door.

"What do we got?" she asked her colleague.

" Thirty-four-year-old woman. Domestic violence. Multiple stab wounds to the abdomen."

Vivian nodded and quickly ran into the room.

She immediately saw the compresses spread out on the work surfaces, all soaked in blood. The sound of the monitors, which emitted an alarm tone, echoed through the room. The patient's heart line was constantly fluctuating.

Several of her colleagues were working hard on the person, who was lying on a stretcher in the centre of the room. An emergency doctor was also in the room. They were trying to make the patient as stable as possible before the upcoming operation.

Vivian stepped closer and immediately her heart beat against her chest, her hands became sweaty under the gloves.

"Viv! Come!" someone called out to her. But she couldn't move.

"That's no help, get her out of here!" shouted the paramedic.

Someone grabbed her and pulled her out of the room.

Now she was sitting on the floor in the corridor outside the room. Leaning against the wall. Her body still in a state of shock.

A pair of shoes appeared in her field of vision. " What was that? Are you all right Viv?"

She looked up and into the eyes of the Head Nurse. Astrid.

" I know her.... she works at the nursery my son attends... we spoke this morning," Vivian mumbled.

Astrid came to her eye level, she said nothing, but her look said everything Vivian needed to know.

She ignored the whispers from her colleagues in the room, who were disposing of the leftovers.

Vivian stepped next to the stretcher, with a shaky hand she brushed a strand of hair from the face of the woman in front of her. Her clothes where soaked in red. The heavy sent of metal was in the air. Countless materials were scattered around then.

The emergency doctor was packing up his things and pulled the breathing tube out of the woman's mouth.

He didn't pay much attention to Vivian and spread out the white sheet, which he immediately placed over the body.

So much could have happened between them. So many stories that would never be happen now.

What was left now, was a nurse with a broken heart and a woman who had been torn from life by a monster.
