"Well Marjorie, luckily for you, I'm on her doorstep right now," said Autumn.

"Oh perfect! It would be best if the two of them met on neutral ground. At my place?" asked Marjorie from the other end of the phone line.

"Mia won't set foot in your house. We'll meet at my place."

"You're right. Right then, we'll see you then."

Autumm hung up. She rang and waited. But there was no response. Strange, Mia's car was parked in the driveway.

She furrowed her brow. Something was wrong. Autumn looked around the front door.

She had known Mia for a long time and if there was one thing the redhead did, it was always hide a spare key nearby. Just in case.

Autumn didn't have to search for long, it was buried in a flower pot next to the door.

When Autumn entered the house, she immediately smelled the odour of alcohol. The flat was dark.

She slowly walked through the rooms. In the living room, it looked like a bomb had gone off. Shards lay on the floor and the coffee table had been knocked over, the objects on it scattered around the room. Autumn furrowed her eyebrows. What had happened here?

She heard a noise above her, from the second floor. As she climbed the stairs, she heard the water running in the bathroom. Mia seemed to be taking a shower.

Autumn still hadn't made herself known, a strange feeling was in her stomach. Something was still wrong. She decided to have a look around. When she stepped into the bedroom, she immediately noticed something. There was a letter on the bed and an empty wine bottle on the bedside cabinet.

She carefully picked up the envelope. Autumn didn't even have to finish reading the first sentence. When she realised what was going on.

Mia had sat down in the warm water, still wearing her clothes. She didn't want to expose herself, who knows, who would find her.

So this was it, this was how it would end.

This was not how Mia had imagined her life would end. But she could no longer live with the pain. Every breath was now too exhausting for her.

With trembling hands, she picked up the razor blade and placed it on her wrist.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Hopefully the alcohol had numbed her senses enough that she wouldn't feel the pain.

The bathroom door flew open with a bang. Mia was so startled that the blade fell out of her hand.

Before she could react, someone had grabbed her and pulled her out of the water.

Now she was on the tiled floor with someone holding her tightly.

Mia only now realised the gravity of the situation. She was about to take her own life. Her emotions got the better of her and the room filled with painful crying.

Charlotte had rested her head against the frame of the car window and was just looking out. She had been persuaded to go to Autumn's with Marjorie for a girls' night out. Reece had picked her up.

She had sat in silence in the back seat for the whole journey. She didn't want to talk, any social interaction was too much for her right now.

Her family and friends tried to hide it as much as possible, but Charlotte saw it. The pity in their eyes and she was fed up with it.

She had come to turn with her fate. Forever confined to a wheelchair. She could no longer do her job, the passion of her life. She would never be able to chase after her daughters again. She would be dependent on help for the rest of her life.
