Autumn was on her way to her father's office. She had to talk to him, even if she didn't want to.

Reece had disappeared, he had broken up with Mia and then just left. And even though there was no real love between the two siblings, she was still worried.

She knocked on the door. Her father's voice rang out. Autumn entered slowly.

There he sat at his desk. Her father and now also her boss. She herself had started working at the Nursery a few months ago.

She sat down opposite him and waited.

Roger was writing something and completely ignored his daughter. Autumn didn't dare speak to him, she waited until he paid attention to her.

"I suppose you want to talk to me?" he said without looking up from his paper.

"Yes, about Reece."

Roger started writing again, the scratching of his fountain pen filling the room. "What about him."

Autumn tensed, any question might be too much and she was afraid of arousing his anger. "I wanted to make sure we're doing everything we can to find him."

Her father finally looked up. "When you Mother walked out on us. What did I do in response?"

"You put every policeman in London on the case." You still didn't find her, Autumn thought to herself.

Roger put his pen to the paper again. "If I did that for that cunt of a woman. What do you think I am doing for my eldest son and heir to my company?"

Heir. That was all Reece was to him. And she, as a woman, was even less in his eyes.

Autumn took a deep breath. "Whatever you can."

The pen scratched loudly across the paper. Roger had just put his signature on there. He put it aside and picked up the next document.
"Whatever I can."

Autumn just stared at him. How indifferent she was to him. Her brother had disappeared and she was left in the dark. And on top of that, she had to put on a façade for him. Everyone at the Nursery hated her. And she hated working there. But she had no other option.

"You're still here." Roger's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

"Yes."

"Why?" His voice slowly became more aggressive.

But despite everything, she was still his daughter and she wanted him to be proud of her. And perhaps give her something like fatherly love for once.

"Did it ever occur to you that I am the one that deserves your trust and respect? Not your son. Not Reece, but me. Years and years of lectures about our family legacy. Did you ever think that maybe your daughter was the only one listening to them, trying to live by them. That i might have done the most to contribute to your legacy. That you love so much. Even more than your actual children."

Roger sighed, he put the pen down with a bang and leaned back in his office chair. "All right, give me your contribution."

"Mia is a problem."

Roger rose from his chair and towered over his daughter, something he always did to intimidate her. "Mia keeps your brother under control. Mia makes sure he doesn't drag our name through the mud and make a mockery of our family!"

Autumn looked up at him. Even now, as an adult, he still scared her. She made herself smaller. But she kept trying to convince her father of her opinion. "Mia has her claws in Reece. She is manipulating him."

Roger laughed." Good. I wish you would find yourself a rich husband and know how to manipulate him. I don't underestimate you because you're a woman. I underestimate you because you will not carry on our name. Reece will! He is my son! He will take over my company one day. You are my daughter and the only thing you will do is find a husband from another powerful family and strengthen our connection!"

Autumn stood up too, she was now almost at eye level with her father. "Well, if Reece is your priority. Perhaps you should find him then."

Roger's gaze became dark. "I will."
