When Marjorie entered her new office, she was surprised to find her old Knight Nursery team waiting for her.

" Oh... What is this? An unannounced team meeting?"

"No, a crisis meeting!" Sorscha spoke tensely. She sat on the desk, her arms crossed.

" You could call it that..." Charlotte said quietly. She sat on the visitor's chair near Marjorie's new desk.

"This merger is an absolute disaster!" exclaimed Winter, leaning against Janice's desk.

Carly just nodded, sitting in Marjorie's office chair.

The manager closed the door to create some privacy. " It's the first day..."

" And I've already had to deal with three homophobic parents!" shouted Sorscha.

" A kid threw poo at me.... luckily I had spare clothes in the car..." whispered Charlotte.

"I was labelled an alpha male!" said Winter, stunned.

Marjorie rubbed her eyes. " Ok... Maybe it was a bad start..." she looked at the only person in the room who hadn't said anything yet. " Carly what about you?"

" I'm a floater today... but I was hiding the entire time... because the staff here are so nasty and because I don't want to cross Lydia's path..." the girl said sheepishly.

"Well, at least someone who's had a more or less good day..." Marjorie mumbled.

"Where's my wife?" Winter now asked.

"Board meeting in the conference room," Marjorie replied.

At the same time, one floor above the office. All you could hear in the conference room was Roger talking. He was talking about how great the merger had gone.

Mia was scrolling on her phone, which she kept hidden under the table. Reece, who was sitting next to her, was looking at her phone just to keep himself occupied.

Siobhan, who was sitting next to Roger, was writing the protocol of the meeting. Janice was watching her the whole time and reading along. Autumn sat at the head of the table opposite her father and kept eye contact with him.

"Well, that's all we need to discuss for now," said Roger, wanting to end the meeting.

"Well, I have one more thing," Janice's said with a grin. "Now with the merger, we have too many employees. It would only be appropriate to keep the best of the best, and get rid of those who are just not fit for the job." Her eyes wandered to Mia, who was still busy with her phone.

Roger cleared his throat, when it came to saving money, he always agreed. "Which of the employees do you think is superfluous?"

Janice grinned. " Charlotte first and foremost."

Mia's eyes shot up immediately.

" We don't need somebody, who can't even stand up for themselves."

" Careful..." Mia hissed.

Autumn intervened. "Charlotte is a long-standing and capable employee, she was deputy team leader, she has first aid and fire safety training."

" Autumn is right," Siobhan agreed, not lifting her eyes from her laptop.

Reece just nodded in agreement.

" Janice, I have to agree with everyone here. We're keeping Charlotte," said Roger.

" All right, then. But I have other candidates. Carly. Her work leaves a lot to be desired."

Now Reece looked angrily at the woman. "Carly is a trainee. Firstly, she has special protection against dismissal and secondly, she's the best in her class. Not like your apprentice."

"Reece is right. Carly only does good work," said Siobhan.

"Janice, I usually trust your judgement, but I have to disagree with you here too," said Roger.

Janice took a sip of water. She would make one last attempt. "Well, I can make friends with Charlotte and Carly. But what about Sorscha. We're a Nursery, we have to be neutral. We can not support a controversial lifestyle that's lived so publicly."

Siobhan just stopped her typing and looked stunned at the woman sitting next to her.

" Oh buhu get over it. Or are you going to sack me too? Newsflash I have a woman as a partner too!" Mia spoke sternly.

"Father, what Janice is doing here is causing trouble. That's a reason to kick her out as a member," said Autumn.

Roger tugged at his collar. "We'll end this meeting now."

The first day of the merger went differently than planned for everyone.

A Storm was brewing.
