Mia held her tied. Charlotte layed in her arms. Her face buried in her chest. It was already morning. But the brunette was still sound asleep. It must been the first real sleep she'd had in months.

Mia had been awake for a while. But she didn't want to move, she gently stroked her back and listened to her soft breathing. How peaceful she looked right now. Not like yesterday, when she was devastated on this deserted bridge.

Mia hugged her tighter, even through the shirt she was wearing, the redhead could feel how thin she actually was, her ribs were clearly palpable.

Right now she held a broken heart in her arms and Mia knew, she could never leave Charlotte behind like this ever again.

Mia must have fallen asleep again, when she woke up again, Charlotte was no longer on her. She quickly jumped up, but soon realised that the water was running in the bathroom.

When Charlotte came out of the bathroom and returned to the bedroom. There was a tray with breakfast and a cup of coffee on the bedside table.

A light breeze was blowing and the smell of smoke caught her nose. Charlotte saw Mia sitting with her back to her at the bedroom window. Her legs were hanging out of the window. She was also holding a cup in her hand, taking a puff with her other hand, blowing the smoke outside.

She didn't seem to notice Charlotte. So the brunette sat down on the bed and slowly began to eat.

It had been a long time since she'd had a proper meal and, above all, since she'd been hungry enough to eat anything at all.

Charlotte was already preparing herself for the conversation that would take place sooner or later. Did she really want to tell Mia the horrorfying truth?

Of course Mia had noticed Charlotte, but she wasn't ready to talk to her yet either. The smoke danced around her, also enjoyed the peace and quiet and the knowledge that Charlotte was behind her. Safe.

The brunette swirled the black coffee in her hand. It was funny, she had never told Mia that she drank her coffee black. But she just seemed to know.

She heard Mia move. She pulled her legs back, threw the cigarette out of the window and turned to face her. Charlotte didn't look up. She continued to stare into the black liquid.

" Sweetheart.... How are you?" Mia spoke in a soft voice.

" Better..." Charlotte whispered.

" Where have you been all these months? What exactly happened?"

There it was. The question Charlotte didn't want to answer.

"Sweetheart?"

The brunette took a deep breath and put her cup down. She began to scratch her arm nervously. Feeling Mia's gaze on her. But she couldn't look her in the eyes. " I.......Mia so much has happened..."

"Please talk to me."

Now Charlotte looked up and gazed into her eyes. It was time to finally get it off her chest.

"It all actually started three years ago. My marriage fell apart, but we wanted to keep trying. Until the beginning of the year... I couldn't take it anymore Mia. Worst of all, he's a good man, a loving father. But we've just changed too much...... But still I couldn't accept that it was over..."

"So you didn't tell anyone..." Mia said.

" I couldn't do it. I had the feeling I was letting everyone down. Well then you came into my life...and suddenly there were these feelings..... But I didn't want to disappoint anyone again...so I helped them fire you...but you already know that...When you left.... I didn't know how to go on again...", Charlotte looked at her hands, her eyes began to sting, tears forming.

"The argument with Marjorie got worse."

The brunette nodded. " It was so awful..... I wanted to tell her the truth... but I just couldn't... then the rumours started and suddenly I was a cheater.... I couldn't take it anymore... and I just had to get away from everything... even my children... I was no longer a good mum, they deserved better...", the tears dripping from her face. "God, my children, I just left them..."

"Sweetheart..." Mia got up from the windowsill and went to her, she knelt down in front of her and took her hands.

" I had no place to go.... I broke off contact with everyone... So I did everything I could to keep my head above water somehow..."

Mia squeezed her hands tighter, a terrible realisation was dawning.
"The man you were in the pub with..."

Charlotte began to cry more. " Was my food and sleeping place for the night.... I couldn't and didn't want to live like this anymore. Mia, I wanted to jump. But something stopped me and I called Reece... But how am I suppose to come back from all this?"

Mia realised, that she was starting to hyperventilate.

"Hey sweetheart, breathe. Everything's going to be okay." She placed her hand over Charlotte's heart. "Take a deep breath in and out."

Charlotte closed her eyes and tried to concentrate on her breathing. Slowly she calmed down again. She opened her eyes again.

" Very good sweetheart. We can do this together. I will never leave you again. I'm so sorry I just ran away. I was scared. But now I just want to be there for you."

Charlotte felt something like hope. Maybe things will become better again. She grabbed Mia and pulled her into a hug.
