Sorscha went into the living room, where her wife was sitting on the sofa. She was holding her daughter in her arms. They were both fast asleep.

Sorscha had to smile slightly. They had been home for a few days now.

She slowly approached the two of them. The Irish woman leaned forwards and gave her wife a gentle kiss on the forehead, at the same time stroking her daughter's head.

Clodagh's eyes opened slowly.

"Hey..." she still sounded a little sleepy.

" Hey..." Sorscha spoke softly. "Do you want to go back to sleep? Shall I take the little one?"

But Clodagh shook her head. "I think I need some tea. Can you switch on the kettle. I'll quickly put the little one to bed."

"But of course babe..."

Sorscha stood in front of the hob as her phone vibrated. Clodagh entered the room at that moment.

Sorscha briefly showed her the name on the display, which made the other woman laugh.

"Hello mum...... Yes we are fine...... Yes I saw your status on Facebook........ what you and dad want to visit us?" She looked panicked at her wife. But Clodagh just nodded. " Ok, mum we'll let you know when you can come over........ Mum one day! Not a whole weekend!" Sorscha waved her hand in panic. Clodagh had to stifle her laughter. "No, Aunt Peggy is staying at home!"....... Why? .... Because the woman has never had an immunisation in her entire life!.... No mum the alcohol doesn't kill all the bacteria!..... One day! You and Dad! Nobody else is coming!"

Clodagh now intervened. "We'd love you to come round!" she said half aloud.

"Ok Mum.... See you soon then.... Love you..." Sorscha put the phone down on the table and breathed loudly.

"Don't worry darling, just be glad you have a mum who loves you..." Clodagh said.

Sorscha just nodded.

She was just about to pour the tea. When the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it," said Clodagh.

But when she opened the door, her heart stopped.

" Ma...Pa?"

Panic immediately rose in her.

"Clodagh....," her mother spoke. She wanted to step closer and hug her, but Clodagh refused.

"What do you want?" her voice trembled.

Her father, who was almost two heads taller and packed with muscle, looked at her seriously. "To talk!"

"There's nothing more to talk about. Please go away."

But her mother tried to approach her again. This time, too, Clodagh backed away. " My child.... Please... we've heard you've had a baby."

More panic rose in Clodagh.

"Have you finally broken up with that woman and found yourself a husband?" said her mother.

Sorscha suddenly appeared behind her wife. Her face immediately turned dark. " Erica... Derek." she growled.

"Oh God! Forgive my daughter's sins!" Erika began to pray.

Sorscha stood protectively in front of her wife.

You could see the hatred and anger in Derek's face. "So you're still with that Dyke! You have corrupted my daughter!" He stepped dangerously close to Sorscha, but she refused to be intimidated.

" Get out of here right now! Or I'll call the police!" Sorscha spoke sternly.

Erica stopped the prayer she was mumbling to herself. "We have a right to see our granddaughter. The soul of this child must be saved!"

Sorscha looked hatefully at her. " No! Get out!"

Derek tried to intimidate her one last time. "If I find out that you've turned our granddaughter gay, just like you did with our daughter. You're dead!"

"And if I see you anywhere near my daughter. I'll kill you!" hissed Sorscha. With that, she slammed the door shut.

For a moment, she just stood there and tried to calm down again. But then she heard soft crying behind her

Clodagh was standing there. Tears in her eyes, her hands trembling.

" Hey..." Sorscha approached her carefully and placed her hands on her cheek.

" They know where we live.... Sorscha, we have to move away from here... Our daughter... We have to protect her...We..."

" Hey...Hey...Babe... You're safe here... We are safe here... I'll protect you ok?" Sorscha spoke softly.

Her wife looked at her, the panic in her eyes slowly disappearing and turning to sadness. " He still looks exactly the same....."

Sorscha knew exactly what she meant. A lump formed in her throat.

"He looks exactly the same as he did the night he nearly beat me to death..." Tears streamed down Clodagh's face.

Sorscha took her in her arms and held her tight.

Her wife cried painfully into her chest.
Sorscha hated herself for not being able to protect her then. But then she was still a teenager herself. What could she have done? She couldn't get Clodagh out of this hell until they were both eighteen.

" Why can't they just accept me and love me?" Whispered Clodagh through her tears.

But Sorscha had no answer. There was only one thing she could do. Protect her family at all costs.
