Marjorie simply tried to ignore Deliah. She needed to concentrate on her work. Even if it was difficult, not only because of Deliah but also because she was waiting for an update from Clodagh.
Sorscha's condition remained unchanged, for the time being. If only she would wake up, she had definitely must a seen seen the culprit.
Marjorie leant back in her office chair. At least Deliah was working quietly.
" Marjorie...?"
The manager looked at the door, Jodie was standing there. Marjorie had to put her back in the rooms. Alongside the two temporary staff. There was currently a shortage of staff. Marjorie wasn't surprised who would want to work in a Nursery where somebody was murder.
"Yes, Jodie."
"I don't know where my group is going now. Winter went on break, I'm on my own."
Marjorie jumped up. " Jodie! Go back to your classroom!"
Jodie wheeled round quickly, and something fell out of her pocket with a loud bang. She quickly picked it up again and disappeared.
" Urgh.... She still has that thing..." Deliah muttered.
" What do you mean?"
Deliah looked up from her computer.
" We had to order new plastic fruit in the Sister Nursery because Jodie tried to eat all the others .. well, the new ones were too hard and splintered when they fell from too high up. So we had to sort them out again," Deliah rolled her eyes. "Anyway, Jodie still has one of these old fruits... I'm telling you, if it falls and splinters, it can be really dangerous."Marjorie nodded her head slightly. Even though she always wanted to protect Jodie, she had to admit to herself that she was a safety risk.
Marjorie's phone vibrated, she hoped it was Clodagh with good news. But Autumn's name appeared on the display.
"Excuse me..." Marjorie spoke and stepped out of the office.
" Hey."
"Hello, I just wanted to tell you that I'm at Sorscha's place. Clodagh had to rush to the hospital. I'm afraid I don't know what's going on. I'm looking after Quinn at the moment. Marjorie, is there any way you can go and support Clodagh?"
Marjorie binged her nose bridge. "I don't think so... I can't go now, Roger is giving me hell. There's so much paperwork... I'll try to get hold of Clodagh... Hopefully, it's good news..."
"What about Reece?"
"I'll give him a call. Thanks, Autumn. If you hear something, let me know."
When Marjorie searched for Reece's contact on her phone. A thousand things went through her mind.
What if Sorscha never wakes up?
What if Clodagh needed to get to the hospital quickly, because Sorscha is... no, she didn't want to think about that."Reece." Marjorie spoke.
"Hey you. Everything ok?"
" Autumn just rang. Clodagh had to rush to the hospital. Your sister is with Quinn. I can't get away from here. Can you go to Clodagh?" She turned towards the classrooms and saw Jodie playing with the plastic fruit in her hand through the open door. She exhaled in annoyance, as if she didn't already have enough on her plate.
" Erm, well. I can't leave here right now, either. Mia is with me right now."
" Mia... oh..." Marjorie's chest tightened. She hadn't seen Mia since Charlotte's funeral. And to be honest, Marjorie was glad she'd left the country after the funeral. Seeing Mia only brought back painful memories of Charlotte. " Ok, look, I'll try and sort this out. Thank you, Reece. " she hung up quickly.
" Marjorie." Deliah stood behind her in the doorway. " You can go. I'll be fine, and I won't tell Roger either."
Marjorie looked at her hopefully. " Thank you, Deliah..."
"No problem, now go, your friends need you."
The conversation between Reece and Mia was still buzzing around in Reece's head. Seeing her again opened up old wounds. But he was glad she was back. The redhead wanted to stay in London for the time being.
Mia didn't look well when Reece saw her again. She hadn't changed much on the outside. But her eyes had lost their spark, and her manner was also completely different. Reece could understand why. He couldn't imagine how bad it must have been to lose the love of his life. The death of Charlotte had hit him hard, too, but he couldn't imagine how Mia must be feeling.
Deliah was on her way to lock up the Nursery. She just saw Jodie disappear out of the exit. As she stepped out of the entrance, she saw Winter and Agatha still standing outside the door.
" I'll never understand how Jodie didn't even hear the attacks. She lives right next door to the Nursery," Winter said, looking after Jodie.
"Some people just don't want to see anything or are simply too inattentive," said Agatha.
Deliah could only quietly agree. Agatha was right. Some people just don't want to see anything. She locked the door. Agatha and Winter went to their cars. Deliah would walk home.
As she was walking down the street, she saw Reece's car driving towards the Nursery. Strange, had Marjorie forgotten to tell him that she had already left.
Reece was surprised when he drove into the car park and saw that the lights in the Nursery were out. He pulled his car over and tried to call Marjorie.
But she didn't answer her phone. So he wrote her a message. When there was a knock on his car window. Reece looked into two familiar eyes, but before he could even say the person's name. The glass shattered, and the inside of the car turned red.
