As Autumn drove out of the driveway, she kept looking at her passenger side.

She wanted to hate her so much. But Autumn couldn't. Yes, she was angry and disappointed. But she couldn't hate her.

" She haunts me... in my dreams... every time I was drunk... I saw her... the guilt eats me up..." Mia spoke softly, staring out of the car window.

This statement scared Autumn, Mia's mental state must be so bad. If she was imagining Charlotte. "What happened wasn't your fault..."

"Yes, it was! I asked her to pick me up at the airport! I wish I'd just taken a taxi!"

Autumn decided to pull the car on the side of the road. She switched off the engine.
"Mia, that wasn't your fault. But what you did afterwards. How could you just take off and leave us all behind. You weren't there! We picked up the pieces! How could you?"

Mia couldn't give her an answer, because she didn't know why. She had simply run away, unable to face reality, and it broke her.

When they arrived at their destination, Mia could already feel the tightness in her chest.

" Great... Marjorie's here... I'll keep her off your back," said Autumn and got out.

Mia stayed seated, she had to collect her thoughts first. What should she say, should she say anything at all?

Once she had made it out of the car and walked the short distance to the house. She could already hear Autumn and Marjorie arguing.

"No way! I won't let that happen!" Marjorie shouted angrily, and when she saw Mia, her expression became even darker.

Autumn had to stand in front of the manager to stop her from going after Mia. "Marjorie, please! It's the best for everyone!"

" Fine!"

Mia walked past the two of them, with her head bowed. Her heart grew heavier with every step. In the living room, she couldn't take it no more and collapsed.

"I'm so sorry!" she managed to say, barely audible between her tears.
"I'm so sorry I wasn't there when you needed me...."

She knelt on the floor and wept pitifully, tears dripping on the ground. She didn't expect an answer.

" Why?"

Mia looked up, there at the window, now bound to a wheelchair, was the love of her life. Or what was left of it. Now she was a shadow of her former self.

"It was my fault... I couldn't face you."

Charlotte looked on coldly, no emotion, face blank.
"No Amelia, it wasn't your fault. But how could you just run away when I was fighting for my life? I thought you loved me."

" i... I... couldn't. It was all too much... you were in a coma... I didn't know if you would make it... My guilt ate me up." Mia broke down more and more in front of her.

"Guilt?! Do you know what it feels like, when you wake up and the person you love so much is just gone? I needed you and you weren't there!" Charlotte raised her voice.

In all the months she had been recovering from the serious accident. She wasn't able to feel anything, she was so empty. Not just physically hurt, but emotionally too.

"So you're here to apologise?" Charlotte couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of the whole situation.

" Yes..." Mia whispered.

" Well I don't forgive you!"

"What?". In the hallucinations that had haunted Mia since the accident, Charlotte was still the gentle, loving and understanding person.

But this person no longer existed. She died in the wreck of the car.

" No. I will never forgive you, for what you did to me! And now get out!"
