Charlotte stopped on her way into the office.

Should she really go through with it? But who was going to stop her? Her husband? No. Not even her now ex-husband could stop her.

I'm doing this for Jodi, for the nursery, for my colleagues and, above all, for Marjorie. At least that's what she tried to tell herself.

She played with the ring on her finger for a moment. After all these months, she still hadn't taken it off.

Her courage got the better of her and so she switched the ring to her middle finger.

Mai heard a light knock and the door opened cautiously.

"Hi." Charlotte barely managed to get out. She stopped in the doorway, biting her lower lip and desperately trying to avoid eye contact.

,,Hello Sweetheart.... What can I do for you?" Mia looked her up and down.

Charlotte entered the room slowly, as if she were entering the den of a predator. That's how she felt.

She looked up cautiously.

"I need the computer for a moment. My phone never connects to the internet here." She realised how unsure she sounded.

Mia leant back on her office chair and crossed her legs.

"Really? What's so important that you want to stop me from doing my job?"

"A new bar has opened and I want to have a look at the menu." A new bar? Really now? That's all I can think of, she thought to herself.

Everyone here knows that Charlotte would never go out drinking on a workday.

,,Oh really, a new bar has opened. And you want to have a look at the menu? Of course," said Mia, amused. "Well sweetheart, the computer is all yours." And so she rolled back into her chair.

Damn! What should she do now? A slight panic rose up inside her. Before she simply typed "bar" into the search bar.

She heard an amused giggle from the side. Charlotte felt Mia's gaze on the back of her neck.

She had to quickly distract her somehow.

"Erm, I like your perfume. It smells really good...'' she said carefully.

She looked cautiously in Mia's direction.

''And your fingernails.... are really well-groomed... And um beautiful." It couldn't get any worse, Charlotte thought.

"Is that so? And let me guess. You want to go to the pub with me? The best thing is for me to drive, right? So that you can look for a missing bag in my car?" Mia asked Innocent with a devilish grin.

Charlotte had the feeling that her heart would stop beating at any moment.

"So... I... you know..." she stuttered to herself.

''Oh Charlotte, you're so easy to see through. And you can't flirt either, even if your life depended on it." Mia slowly stood up with these words.

Charlotte stood up as well. That was it. She was now next on Mia's hit list. But she would give it one more try.

"If only everyone else would do as much for you as you do for them. But nobody seems to realise what's really going on with you." Said the redhead.

Charlotte quickly tried to distract her from the whole situation. "I don't know what you mean. But can you at least sign this accident form for me? Billi's mum is coming soon and he hurt himself playing this morning."

She tried to get to the drawer where the form was. But she was stopped in her tracks. Mia came dangerously close to her. She blocked Charlotte with her arm. And placed both of her hands next to Charlotte on the desk. So that she could no longer escape.

Mia's eyes were penetrating. She seemed to be looking right into her soul. And Charlotte was afraid of what she would see there.

"How long has it been over?" Mia asked sternly. "How long have you been this running cry for help?"

Charlotte tried to avoid her gaze. "I don't know what you mean." She spoke quietly.

She had to get out of here! That was clear. The whole thing was a stupid idea. What had she got herself into?

Mia came closer to her once more. Now she could feel her breath. The perfume she had used in her pathetic attempt at flirting now reached her nose. And clouded her senses.

She desperately tried to put some distance between her and this woman who was driving her mad. And so she put her hand on Mia's chest and tried to push her away. But Mia didn't move an inch.

Charlotte looked up, and for the first time she made eye contact with her. Everything inside her screamed, the blood rushed to her head. Her legs felt soft.

But Mia wasn't impressed by the whole thing, she still seemed to be waiting for an answer.

Now Charlotte leant forwards slightly, a voice in her head screamed at her. What was she doing here right now! Betrayal! To her husband...ex-husband, and to everyone who worked here.

They were now just a few centimetres away from each other. Charlotte closed her eyes and paused for a moment. She didn't realise how hard she was actually breathing. And suddenly she felt the lips of the woman she was supposed to deeply hate. Charlotte made a soft noise.

She lost herself in the moment. And opened her mouth slightly and let the other in.

Mia pushed her backwards onto the tabletop. Her hands, which were still resting on the table, had now found their place on Charlotte's hips.

Charlotte was now on the desk, she put her arms on Mia's shoulders and wrapped her legs around her. Their lips didn't part for a second.

Mia finally pulled away from her and kissed her neck. Charlotte threw her head back. She exhaled loudly. She never wanted Mia to stop.

But even the best moments have to come to an end. When Charlotte's phone made a loud noise, announcing the end of her break.

"Mmmm... that's too bad," Mia hissed. And so, with a heavy heart, she broke away from the other woman. Who desperately tried to hold her.

"Sorry sweetheart, your work continues now."

Charlotte was still on her high. Breathing heavily, she just looked at her. Mia slowly sat down in her chair.

"What... wait Mia....", she managed to get out.

Mia took one of the accident forms and signed it. And handed it to Charlotte, who was still sitting on the table.

"Here you go, sweetheart. But don't abuse it."

Charlotte felt like she was in the wrong film. "Mia... I... I..."

"You can come to me any time, sweetheart. Even if you can't tell me your whole story right now, I'll always be there for you."

The two looked at each other. Charlotte nodded slowly. She needed a cold shower. No, an ice bath!

And so she slowly stood up. Took the form in her hand. She had achieved what she wanted.

She looked at Mia again. Before she hurried out of the office.

Mia's gaze silently followed her.
