Mia, I..." Charlotte didn't get any further when the other woman interrupted her.

"Stop, I'm talking! You will answer me, and don't you dare lie!"

Her green eyes were fixed on Charlotte. They reflected only hatred, where a few weeks ago, they only reflected love. Charlotte sighed softly, she still had the full wine glass in her hand. She drained the glass in one gulp.

Charlotte sat down carefully on the sofa and put her glass down on the coffee table. She didn't even dare look at Mia and just stared into space.

The redhead pierced Charlotte critically. She had the feeling she no longer recognised her.

"Since when?" Mia asked seriously.

"Since the Nursery started." Charlotte's voice was monotone.

Anger rose in Mia, so Charlotte had always been in cahoots with Roger. Was the love they shared even real?

"Why?"

The brunette took a deep breath. "When I started working there, the pay was bad, and my ex had just lost his job. I needed money, and Roger needed someone to keep an eye on his Nursery."

Mia sat back and rubbed her eyes, she needed to process the information. "So he paid you to spy for him?"

" Yes.... and so that it wouldn't fall into a legal grey area, he made me a silenc partner..."

" Why didn't you say anything? I could have helped you! Instead, you lied to me! You lied to all of us!" Mia shouted.

Charlotte laughed, not knowing how else to react. Her emotions were running wild.

" Is that funny to you?"

"Mia, you couldn't have helped me. No one can help me, it's too late." She smiled at the redhead, but tears were running down her cheeks.

Mia looked at her, stunned. When Charlotte started laughing even harder. " It's funny that it was Marjorie who finally figured it out. Even though she's always so oblivious. It's ironic."

Mia could see Charlotte breaking down in front of her. She laughed, but it was a laugh of despair. Mia was still so angry and hurt. But her heart broke again when she saw her sweetheart like this.

The redhead stood up and walked slowly to Charlotte, who was still laughing, sitting down next to her. " Char..."

"God, it's all so ridiculous!" exclaimed Charlotte desperately. "What even is this?! A goddamn crime series?" Her laughter turned into painful crying.

Mia didn't know what to do, Charlotte was breaking down more and more in front of her, she seemed almost unable to breathe from crying. "Sweetheart... come here..." she put her arms around her.

Charlotte clung desperately to Mia and buried her face in her shoulder.

The hours passed, Charlotte had exhausted herself so much that she had fallen asleep in Mia's arms. The redhead now needed some fresh air to come down again herself. She stepped outside the house

She had to help Charlotte get out of Roger's clutches. She was a victim like she herself used to be.

Mia took her phone out of her pocket.

"Hello?" Autumn's voice rang out on the other end.

"Hey, so i have a bit of a situation going on...."

It was quiet for a moment, Mia didn't know how best to tell Autumn. But she was the best option. Marjorie was too emotional, Reece was still too angry, and he could never think clearly when he was angry. With Autumn, she hoped she would at least hear her out.

".... You're with Charlotte, aren't you?" Autumn spoke.

"Yes."

"Mia, we talked about this. You can't trust her."

" Please listen to me..." Mia spoke.

What the redhead didn't realise was that two curious eyes were on her. Hidden in the darkness, cigarette smoke rose from behind a house. Not far from Mia's position.

The cigarette fell to the ground, and the person disappeared into the darkness. Interesting, Roger's little bird was now playing a double game.
