Mia was back in London, but before she went to Charlotte's, she decided to visit her mum.

She stopped in front of the small house. It looked even worse than she remembered. The relationship between her and her mum got worse and worse after her father left her. Her mum fell into a hole that she never got out of.

Mia thought that if she managed to find her father, everything would go back to normal.

But now, after twenty years, she realised one thing. She would never see her father again, and that was a good thing.

It took her a long time to realise that she had a distorted perception of the man who had abandoned her.

He wasn't a hero. He was a narcissist. Who was only after money and wealth and when he found someone better. He simply left his old life behind.

Mia entered the house, she still had the key. It didn't take her long to find her mum. Past out on the sofa. It smelled of alcohol.

So nothing had changed, Mia thought to herself.

There were papers on the coffee table. At first, Mia thought they were bills, but on closer inspection, she noticed something.

It was a certificate of inheritance.

Mia picked up the document and immediately felt like she was going to throw up.

Her father was dead and had been for months. What was left of his money had gone to her mum.

But there was more. When she looked through the other documents. Her mother had been in contact with her father from time to time. He gave her money when she needed it.

Mia had the feeling that the world was falling apart around her. All these years, she had sacrificed her life to get any information about her father. Only to realise now that her mother had been lying to her the entire time.

Mia stormed out of the house, slamming the door so hard, almost tearing off the door handle.

She stood in the driveway and had to take a deep breath and gather her thoughts.

"Amelia?"

Mia turned around. Her mum was standing at the door.

"What the fuck! You lied to me!" Mia screamed.

"What are you talking about?" her mum asked, slowly approaching her. She tried to reach for Mia, but she backed away.

"Don't touch me! You've been in contact with Dad the entire time! Are you kidding me! I sacrificed myself for you to keep us afloat! I gave up everything!"

Her mum sighed. " I didn't know how to tell you. He was always worried about you...."

" He was worried about me?! Then why did he run away?"

"You don't know anything about your Father!"

Mia let out a scream and angrily kicked over the rubbish bin in the driveway.

"He was never here!"

Her mother seemed to be in a state of denial and continued to try and justify her father's behaviour. "He was a strong, kind and wonderful man."

"He left us! To fuck the wife of his boss!" Tears welled up in the redhead's eyes.

"He loved us!"

"That was love?" Mia asked desperately.

"Yes!"

Mia took a deep breath and wiped her tears away. "Okay alright, then why did he leave?"

Her mum was getting angry now.
" Mia stop! You don't know what you're talking about!"

But Mia didn't let up, all the pain from all those years just made there way out." If he loved us so much, why did he leave?Explain that to me Monica." She was done with this woman.

"Mia, he tried... he really tried."

"He wasn't here! He was never fucking here!" Mia screamed, she just couldn't believe it. "I was ten! Ten when I had to start looking after you! I had to take care of everything! How many times did I have to drag your arse back into the house, because you were past out in the garden again! I had to take care of myself when I was sick! I had to do my homework alone! I had to go to school alone! Navigat my life alone! Because he was never here! And neither were you! You were always too fucking drunk!" She was getting dangerously close to her mum now. "He was a narcissist and you are a fucking alcoholic!"

"Enough!" her mother shouted.

"You never loved me... you never gave a shit about me! But you know what. He didn't love you. He never gave a shit about anyone but himself!"

"That's not true." Now her mum started to cry.

"I'm glad he's dead... and I never want to see you again."

Mia stormed off.

Charlotte was just spending a relaxing evening at home. Her children were with her ex-husband and in an hour she would be facetiming Mia.

But suddenly she heard the front door open.

It could only be one person and Charlotte quickly jumped up and ran into the corridor.

But when she saw her girlfriend, her heart broke.

Mia dropped her bag on the floor, she looked drained, as if she had been crying. She stretched out her arms and Charlotte quickly went to her and hugged her tightly.
