"A wedding at a Halloween ball is tasteless! What are people supposed to think of our family!"
Roger didn't react to his daughter's statement. Autumn had just turned up at his house today as he was returning from a hunting trip.
He was standing with his back to her, both of them in the garage. The deer he had shot laid on the table in front of him.
Roger put the knife to the deer and began to skin it. "You spend too much time worrying about what other people might think of us!"
Autumm laughed mockingly. "I could care less what anyone thinks of me. But I'm still your daughter, and I'm associated with all your deeds!"
The older man pulled the intestines out of the dead animal and threw them into a bin. He wiped his hands on a towel and turned to his daughter. "That's what you want people to believe, don't you?"
Autumn crossed her arms and scowled at her father. She hated it when he tried to get inside her head. "It's the truth."
"When you hear them whispering behind your back, doesn't it bother you?"
His daughter tensed her jaw, she would lie if she said it didn't bother her. There was a lot of talk about her. Her surname was well known in London, and the whispering only increased after her marriage to Winter and the loss of her child.
"Of course it bothers you..." Roger said dryly and turned to the deer. He put the knife back on it. "You are a knight! You shouldn't care about the opinions of ignificant people!"
"That's not the issue now! Do you know how ridiculous you're making yourself look? Marrying a woman younger than me! On top of that, at a Halloween ball!"
Roger ignored her again and continued to dismember the deer. Autumn heard footsteps behind her, and Siobhan entered the garage. The two women started at each other.
The blonde walked past Autumn. "You're back," she said and gave Roger a kiss.
Autumn rolled her eyes. She couldn't see the pain reflected in Siobhan's eyes. To Autumn, she was only after her father's money. "So nothing can change your mind. You're going to marry that leech?"
Siobhan scowled at her. No one seemed to notice that she was slowly drowning. Her cries for help fell on deaf ears, the only person who had heard them. Was lost the moment that cursed ring was placed on her finger. "Roger, is that how you let your daughter talk to me?"
Roger let out an annoyed breath and slammed the knife in his hand on the table. "She can talk to you any way she wants! You're just my wife, she's my heiress!"
Autumn hated that expression. But it was the truth. In Roger's eyes, she was nothing more than an heir. Someone who would carry on the Knight name and keep the family legacy alive.
Roger continued, seeming to enjoy embarrassing his fiancée further. "Besides, Autumn is right. We both know that I'm only with you for your looks and you're with me for my money."
Siobhan had the feeling that the rug was being pulled out from under her feet.
"What a happy marriage this is going to be," Autumn said sarcastically. She was done with this conversation, again staring at Siobhan, looking her up and down. Then she shook her head and whispered. "Money vulture." Under her breath.
At that moment, something broke inside Siobhan. She really was alone in this world. No one seemed to see her suffering, and now, she had to let herself be mocked like this. Frustration, anger, and finally, an unquenchable hatred rose up inside her, and Siobhan did something she had never thought of doing in her life. She grabbed the knife lying on the table in front of her and charged at Autumn.
Luckily, Autumn realised this and grabbed Siobhan's wrist with her hand. The knife was dangerously close to her face.
"Siobhan! Let her go!" shouted Roger.
But the blonde ignored him.
"You've gone too far," Autumn hissed.
"Me?" said Siobhan, stunned. "I've only done what was expected of me, my whole life!"
Autumn could now see the despair in her eyes. But the knife in front of her face was still a threat.
"Drop the knife!" Roger shouted again.
"I've given up everything! I've given up on myself! And now I have to let you throw something like that at my head!'
Roger now approached the two women so that he could pull the blonde away from his daughter.
Autumn wanted to show compassion, but after what Siobhan had done to her in the past, she just couldn't muster it. "The situation you're in is your own fault."
Another blow to Siobhan's face. The world really did seem to be against her.
Roger now grabbed the blonde's arm and pulled her away. The knife struck Autumn's arm and then fell to the floor.
Slowly, the red liquid dripped to the ground, Autumn didn't even react. She didn't care about the pain.
Roger had gripped Siobhan's arm tightly, his fingers would bruise her skin again.
" I haven't said my congratulations yet. I hope you have a long marriage. Until death do you part.," Autumn hissed and finally left the garage, leaving only a trail of blood behind her.
Siobhan didn't realise yet what she had just done or that Roger was shouting at her. He pulled her into the house.
When the door slammed shut, Siobhan was trapped once again, and no one was coming to rescue her.
