Fangs and Claws Part IV

Charlotte stood in the doorway to the living room and watched Mia. The redhead was lying on the sofa with her eyes closed. Charlotte wasn't sure if she was asleep. Could vampires even sleep?

Cautiously, she approached, Mia's eyes opened immediately.

"Hey, sweetheart..." she sat up to make room for Charlotte. "You must have a lot of questions."

Charlotte nodded and sat down next to her, keeping her distance from Mia.
" When were you going to tell me..."

" I don't think ever. I wanted to spend a few years with you and then disappear again..."

" So that was the plan? Fake a future with me and then disappear?"

Mia sighed." Char... You're human, your time on this planet is limited."

The brunette closed her eyes, a tear running down her cheek. "I really love you, Mia... I want to spend my life with you..."

"But you have children. If you become one of us, you can't be here forever. It would be suspicious. Life as a vampire is lonely... If I could, I would give up this curse and lead a normal life with you. But unfortunately that's not possible." Mia reached out and took Charlotte's hand. "I love you more than anything. I wish we could be together for all eternity."

Charlotte fell into her arms and buried her face in Mia's chest.

Winter and Autumn were both sitting in the kitchen. "So you're a vampire..." Winter didn't know how to start this conversation.

"Yes, and I wanted to tell you. But I didn't know how..."

Winter smiled slightly at her. "It's ok. It won't change my love for you. It's just what happens next. I assume you won't age."

Autumn nodded. "That's right. We'll never be able to have children either. Another delight in this 'life'," the bitterness was in her voice. "You deserve a normal life..."

"Well, forever and ever doesn't actually sound that bad."

" Winter, you don't know what it means. We can never stay in one place for long. Everyone around you will die. And then there's the fact that you'll have to fight the urge not to drink human blood for the rest of your life," Autumn said.

Winter took her hand and kissed it. "But it would be by your side."

Autumn fell in love with the man all over again.

Clodagh and Reece were both sitting on the steps outside the house. Clodagh had brought two large blankets outside. They were waiting for Sorscha and Marjorie.

There was an awkward silence between them.

Clodagh eyed the man, noticing the watch on his wrist. Silver. And to break the silence, she finally said something. "You have to be careful with that watch when Marjorie is here."

" Huh?" Reece seemed to have been in thought.

" The silver."

" Oh yeah... I know, I'm always careful not to burn her.."

The two sat in silence again.

" I once had to throw away a whole set of cutlery because there was silver in the metal," Clodagh said, smiling sheepishly. "Sorscha felt so bad because it was really expensive. But I didn't want anything in the house that could hurt her. So, no silver jewellery either."

Reece listened to her, he now had the opportunity to ask his questions. " I don't know much about werewolves.... I never talked to Marjorie about it. We both just pretended we didn't know the truth about each other."
