NO SURRENDER, THIS STORY WILL NOT DIE UNTIL ITS COMPLETE!

"Where's your dad?" You ask after Charlie plops herself down on the couch beside you, nerves on edge because the worried look in her red eyes speaks volumes.

"He... went to the embassy." Lucifer couldn't wait until morning? At bare minimum, he couldn't have shared with those of you waiting inside the suite who knew Heaven finally returned his message? "Heaven finally answered."

"Say what?" Angel has to swat Husk on the back when he sputters and chokes on his bourbon. "It's been months!"

"Isn't it good to hear from Heaven?" Elias asks, peeking out of Ortho's bedroom. How long has he been listening? Vaggie said he was hanging out with Ortho... "It could be uncle! Maybe he talked to some angels and is helping!"

You really hope that Gabe didn't share where he went... "Elias, Gabriel isn't supposed to share that he came down here, remember. Heaven and Hell..." Elias doesn't need to know about the exterminations. The yearly purge of souls that his own father was the leader of. "The relations between the two have been more tense in the last year than since Hell's creation."

"Could say that again." You forgot that Adam was still here!

Adam holds up his hands in surrender when you glare at him immediately, but you notice the way his golden eyes flicker towards Elias in Ortho's doorway.

And looking back at your son, you see the confusion in his eyes as he looks towards Adam. "I'm sorry, I don't believe we've met?" No, no, no, no, no!

"He's--"

"I'm an old friend of your mom's." What?

Your eyes immediately snap back to Adam, staring him down in shock at how he didn't just blow everything up at the first chance he had to finally speak with Elias. The first chance he has to admit who he truly is, and he honored your wish to wait?

"Oh. Nice to meet you! I'm Elias!" Although your heart leaps into your throat when Elias walks over to the father he doesn't even know he has with his hand outstretched to shake. Is this really how bright and friendly you were before you fell to Hell?

No, you think this is one hundred percent just Elias. Your son, the bubbly, curious ball of sunshine.

But you notice the way Adam's wings bristle behind his back, how he tenses and his previously laid-back gaze turns nervous as his son he never knew he had approaches him. And the way his eyes flicker to you, as if silently asking for help, puts your anxious heart at ease. No parent, even Adam, who understands your parental guilt, should be worried about engaging with their child.

Maybe there is a way for Elias to know Adam without knowing the truth of his conception?

When Adam hesitates as Elias holds a hand towards him, you give him a quick nod to confirm it's okay. There's that thought of if you really should allow this for a brief second, but you shove it away when Adam's eyes widen as if he can't believe you're giving him the okay.

"Adam." Although it does surprise you, considering the circumstances, that you feel bad for Adam that his first interaction with Elias is a handshake. Not a hug of absolute joy, or cradle, as an excited parent would usually give their baby upon welcoming them to life.

Have you been the bad guy for a change? Have you been wrong to keep Adam from the son he never knew he created?

The son who as soon as he turns away from Adam for half a second, you see the way Adam's wings shudder and his eyes practically glow with a whirlwind of emotion. Emotions you probably couldn't even hope to understand, because you knew Elias and carried him for nine months.
