I sat on the couch painting my nails and ignoring all of the chaos remind me. I love my brothers to death, but their gang.. not so much. Don't get me wrong, they're great guys. I just don't particularly enjoy being surrounded by boys all the time. They're always here and I feel like I don't get enough time for myself.
"What's the point of painting your nails?" Steve asked from across the room. "Us boys don't pay attention to them at all."
"Who ever said I painted my nails to impress boys?" I asked, rolling my eyes.
"Why else would you do it?" He asked with a stupid look on his face. I'm pretty mean to Steve, not gonna lie, but most of the time he deserves it.
"Have you ever thought I wear it because I like it?" He shook his head in response and continues to watch me paint my nails. Every now and then asking another dumb question. Obviously I was getting a little annoyed and I could tell that he enjoyed it.
"What would you do if I just smeared the paint all over your nails?" He asked with a smirk.
"Don't you have somewhere else to be stupid?" I growled at him, just wanting him to leave me alone.
"Not until four." He said with a cocky tone. I was about to say something back but was interrupted by Sodapop.
"Stop flirting with my sister!" Soda yelled jokingly, but grew serious when Steve's face went red and he stared at his shoes. "Wait, are you actually flirting with my sister?"
"No." Steve muttered, his face was as red as a tomato.
"Steve likes the Curtis girl!" Two-Bit cackled. "He must have death wish!" By now the entire gang was in here and I knew Steve would never hear the end of it.
"(Y/n), please tell me you don't feel the same." Pony begged. Him and Sofa had a pleading look on his face. My brothers would do anything to keep me happy, even if it meant me dating someone in their gang. I didn't answer but got up and went to my room. I could still hear the boys arguing. Ever since I got old enough to realize cooties weren't real there's been one rule, don't like anyone in the gang.
"Was that a yes or no?" Came from Sodas mouth.
"Wait til Darry hears about this." Dallas chuckled. "You'll never walk in this house again, Randle."
"Yeah, I get it." Steve told them in an annoyed tone. I chuckled at the way he spoke.
I threw on some clothes, planning to go out with friends. I couldn't help the smile on my face as I thought about the events that had just happened. Maybe I should give Steve a chance. I stared at myself in the mirror as I looked at my outfit. My shorts had words and drawings on it that were put there by Steve himself, I would never tell him but they're my favorite pair. When I was content with how I looked I walked into the living room and grabbed my bag.
"I'm gonna go hang out with some friends." I told the boys, slipping my shoes on.
"Let one of us walk ya." Soda said , getting ready to out his shoes on. He knows that I hate it when he treats me like a child, we're the same age.
"Fine." He looked surprised that I didn't argue. "C'mon Steve." As soon as I said those words the gang looked at me in surprise. Steve jumped up with a giant smile on his face and let me grab his hand. "See you guys later." I pulled Steve out the door as I laughed. I could feel eyes on me and knew that the gang was watching me from the window.
"Did you do that cause you felt bad for me?" Steve asked as we reached the sidewalk.
"I did it cause I like you." I told him, he grinned his crooked grin and slung his arm over my shoulder. My friends will never let me hear the end of this.
