As we stood at the front of the science classroom I kept my gaze on my shoes, trying to keep myself from glancing at one Ponyboy Curtis. He used to sit in the middle of the classroom while I sat in the back. I was allowed to secretly admire him this way, not seeming like a creep.
That won't be happening anymore. We stand here in misery, awaiting our assigned seats from our teacher. Slowly he started reading names, directing people to their seats.
My heart dropped into my stomach as I heard my name.
"You and Ponyboy will be sitting at the desk in the center of the third row." Our teacher stated, continuing to stare at his little seating chart.
Ponyboy and I sat next to each other, both of us giving short greetings to the other. While most people would be ecstatic to be sitting next to their crush, my anxiety won't allow it. Now I will over think every action I make and ever word I speak. I can't wait.
"Now I know none of you are excited about this development, but I will reveal why this is happening." The teacher paused for effect. "You will be doing a final project on an important contributer to science! And your seat mate will be your partner!"
A chorus of groans filled the room. I, however, did not groan. Instead I went into my head to have a minor panic attack.
The teacher went around the room with topics in a cup for students to draw. As he got to our table I nodded for Ponyboy to grab for us.
"Sir Issac Newton. Gravity." Ponyboy stated, reading the little slip.
"Oh," I muttered, "that's fun. I guess"
"Don't worry about it. I can do this by myself." He stated, not even looking at me.
"Well, I would like to help if you'd let me." While most people would jump at the opportunity to skip out on a project, that wasn't me. I don't trust him enough without being able to make sure it's good. Also, this is a good time for me to try and get closer to him.
"Really?" He looked surprised. "Okay. Well we have a few weeks to work on it. You wanna meet at your place or mine?"
"Is your place alright?"
"Sure. Are Thursdays okay for you?"
"Sounds like a plan." I smiled awkwardly. We continued to discuss how we would do the project and what each of us would bring to his house on Thursday when we get started. I couldn't help the butterflies in my stomach as I thought about spending time with Ponyboy outside of school.

I knocked on the door of the house at the address Ponyboy gave me. The house was loud. Yelling and laughing could be heard from outside. After a moment the door was slung open and I was met by the Tulsa heart throb, Sodapop Curtis.
"Umm, hi. Is Ponyboy here? We're supposed to work on a project." I stuttered.
"Pony!" He yelled with a smile. "Got a girl here for you!"
Ponyboy came to the door, shoving a laughing sodapop out of the frame.
"Sorry about him." He blushed. Scratching the back of his neck. "C'mon. We can work in my room."
He led me through the house, a group of rowdy boys crowded in the living room. I recognized a few of them from school but didn't say anything.
We sat on his bed as we went through our library books, trying to decide what information should be included in the project.
Quietly, I heard Ponyboy laughing.
"What?" I blushed, hoping there wasn't something on my face.
"Nothing, you just stick your tongue out a little when you concentrate on something." He smiled at me, his pencil tapping on his open book.
"Oh," I laughed in response covering my mouth. "I didn't even realize."
We stared at each other for a moment before I realized him slowly leaning in towards me. My heart was beating against my chest as I copied his movements, and after what felt like an eternity, our lips connected.
The kiss started out slow, but began to get more passionate. I felt him smile into the kiss when suddenly, the door to his room slammed open.
"Hey Pony do you ha- oh. Nevermind!" Two-Bit interrupted before quickly shutting the door. "Steve! You owe me twenty bucks!"
I felt a blush go up my neck and to my cheeks as I heard the boys laughing in the living room.
"Sorry about that." Pony whispered, his cheeks a delicious pink.
"Its okay," I chuckled.
"Would you wanna go see a movie sometime?" He asked carefully, almost nervously.
"I would love that."
And after that we continued to work on our projects, with one or two kisses in between.
