CJ sat on a rock near the edge of a cliff. Behind her was a large deep chasm. Where the two parts of the earth split, leaving a gapping hole. She listened to the faint sound of the river crashing into the rocks inside the deep hole. And from where she was, she could see the bottom where the river ran. If she held her fingers up to measure it, it was the size of an ant. She was very far up. Very far.
She waited on the rock, her knee up on another boulder as she placed her elbow on her knee. CJ looked at her hand, and dug some dirt out from underneath her nails.
"CJ?" Harry questioned, stepping out from the tree line. Where the trees stopped and the grassy ground turned into rocky soil. "What are you doing here?"
CJ raised her hands in excitement, "Yay! You found the treasure! It's me! Aren't ya happy?"
And in that split second, Harriet appeared out on the other side. Coming out of the woods and into view, just like her brother had done.
"What?" Harriet furrowed her eyebrows as she looked at the map she was holding, spinning it around as if something would change.
"Lucky for me, our family has a history with maps and treasure!" The younger girl winked, and Harry and Harriet gazed at each other. They were a hundred yards away, which would give CJ enough time to intervene if she needed too.
"You tricked me?" Harry questioned.
CJ nodded her head, "DING DING DING! Correct! And thats the second time in two days brother, you really need to step up your game!"
Before either of her siblings could say anything, CJ jumped off the rock. She placed her hands together as she walked forwards with a smile, "Wanna know how I did it?" Retorical question of course, "LET ME TELL YA!"
The young girl clapped her hands together with a smile, turning her head from side to side and watching her siblings. Making sure nobody was coming forwards or making any moves against the other.
Perfect. This was going according to plan.
"You see, H!" She turned her attention to Harriet, "I knew you couldn't resist a map like that, all I needed you to do was find it! So before you came, I broke in myself and placed it there. Boom boom pow! I get my stuff and you get a new map! And I knew you wouldn't believe it if I simply gave you the map, you'd only fall for it if you found it in Father's chest!"
She spun on her heel, proudly. Pointing her finger at her brother with a grin, "Your turn!"
Harry tore the map in two and threw it on the ground, folding his arms across his chest all the while rolling his eyes.
"You need father's approval so much that you didn't even think twice about following that map! I paid your little boy Winny to tell you that Father came by and left you something! And brother, you seriously must remember that Father and I have the same initials. C! J! H! Forgery is a specialty of mine, don't ya know!" CJ stated with a smirk, before taking the black hat off her head and lowering it with her body as she took a bow.
"Lies. Trickery. Manipulation. Deceit. Aren't you both so proud?" She smiled as both her siblings looked dumbfounded, how had they been tricked by their baby sister?
"But why?" Harriet questioned, doing her classic one hand on her hip and leaning to the side.
"BECAUSE YOU ARE ALL ACTING LIKE STUPID CHILDREN!" CJ's happy demeanor, changed into a brat. "And apparently, I'm the only mature one in this family!"
They just stayed exactly where they were, exchanging their glances from CJ to each other. Completely confused as to what just happened.
CJ was becoming impatient, and stomped her feet on the ground like a child. "Guys!" She whined, "Does this spot mean nothing to you?!"
Harriet looked around as did Harry as well, it was just like any other place in the forest. Well, except for the giant chasm that was behind CJ.
CJ crossed her arms over her chest, pouting. "Remember?" But still there was no response. "When I forced you guys to go on that picnic when we were kids? And we ended up getting lost, so we stopped here and ate food and hung out? Ya know, like normal siblings do?"
Harry smiled, nodding his head as a smirk came to Harriet's face. They did remember.
They remembered seeing who could throw a rock the furthest across the chasm. Then throwing food at each other. Playing tag. Hide and go seek. Who could climb a tree the fastest. Running from the trolls they stumbled upon.
They remembered they were family. And behind CJ on that rock she had been sitting on, was all of their initials that they had carved into stone with their hooks.
"Blood doesn't betray blood." Harriet stated, and for a moment she was smiling. Actually, smiling.
CJ smiled, her heart becoming happy. Maybe her plan would work. Maybe they would end this War. Maybe they had enough kindness in their evil hearts to forgive.
"So out of the love in my heart, I will make your death quick, brother." Harriet stated, pulling out her sword.
Nevermind.
