As the firstborn of the royal family of Luz, Hope was expected to be what they called a beacon. Her parents expected her to bring about something truly special... That's why they named her Hope. She would be a beacon of hope.
But at the moment, she was already 4 and still, no power. The people grew uneasy. What would they do if the oldest wasn't a beacon? This hadn't happened before... And if she wasn't, what about her little sister? She seemed to be perfectly normal, as the secondborn usually was. What would they do if neither daughter had the power? Who would become queen...the beacon?

Hope sniffed. "I'm trying, mom... I just can't."
Her mother smiled sadly. "I know, Hope... All you can do is your best."
Hope took a deep breath. "I'll try again..."
This 4 year old was too grown up already. At this moment, the bright, cheerful Hope of the present didn't exist. This was a broken, sad little girl who had a heavy burden on her shoulders at such a young age. She closed her eyes and extended her hand. Nothing.
"Sweetheart, try cheering up a bit... You already assume you can't. You are what you think," she spoke wisely. She closed her eyes and extended her arms, letting light flow around the room, looking like magic. "You can do this too, my Hope..."
She suddenly stopped and it disappeared. She took a deep breath.
"Raina?" her father asked worriedly, hurrying to her side.
"I...I'm fine... It's just fading again..." Raina explained.
Hope frowned, tearing up. If she couldn't do this and her mother's power was fading... Who would be the beacon?

Midnight smirked, sitting on her throne. "The beacon of Luz is weak. My dear Raina... I will put you out of service once and for all." She stood. "Constance, call the army. We're going to destroy Luz once and for all. Then my darkness will rule the land that is mine."
She flipped her pitch black hair over her shoulder and strode out, her heels clicking against the floor. Darkness was coming...

Raina's eyes widened. "Midnight..."
"Midnight?! Raina, we have to evacuate. You can't-" Hope's father began.
"No," she interrupted. "There's not enough time. I will fight as long as I'm able while everyone escapes. See that it's done."
Raina took a deep breath and stood, giving Hope her necklace and kissing her daughter's heads. "Stay safe, my loves."
She kissed her husband's cheek then walked out. Her husband frowned, but obeyed her orders, beginning the evacuation. Hope's eyes widened. Midnight was coming...
