Julia was busy reading a book about managing a business. Her dad chuckled, walking in and ruffling her hair before heading to his office. Julia smiled and then her step-mom walked in.
She scoffed. "Another one of those books? Please, Julia... You're set. No need to try to do something you're not really capable of anyways."
Nia was sitting beside her listening to an audiobook, so she didn't notice what was going on.
Julia frowned, marking her place. "Not capable of...? But... I-"
"Yes yes, your rich father gave you access to some nice connections. Marry one of their sons and you'll be set for life," her step-mom said. "It's not like you could actually run a business... Don't be silly. You're pretty, use that."
Julia's mouth dropped and she looked down at the book. "But... I love business... And... And I think I'm pretty good at it..."
"Who told you that? Your friends? Probably just trying to get something out of you since they know your rich. You've never run a business, Julia. Leave that to the men. Have you considered modeling? That'd be much more realistic. Here, I'll get you your first photoshoot - as your mom - to invest in your future. You are gorgeous, after all, Juliana. Now stop reading that nonsense and go do something productive!"
Her stepmom walked off and Julia just blinked a few times. She frowned, looking down at her book for a moment, before shutting it and putting it aside. She sighed and went to her room to straighten her hair before she went to hang out with some friends. Yeah...she was probably right... Maybe she should stop trying to be like her dad...
