Casey went to her first day of pre-k. Rose and Derrick were excited but it was also bittersweet. She seemed average smart as far as they knew. She could read pretty well and was a talker for sure, but they never expected what happened at her first day of pre-k...

Casey walked in with a big smile, skipping over and going straight for the books. She picked one up and sat down. She began reading to herself quietly through a pile of books until she noticed the teacher's book. She hurried over and grabbed it while she was busy, sitting in her chair and reading quietly.
The teacher laughed, walking over. "You love books, don't you, Casey?"
Casey looked up from the book and nodded. "Yeah! This one is super interesting!"
The teacher suppressed a laugh. "What's it about?"
Casey thought for a moment. "The part I read, it was about two people trying to save the world from their nemesis, Perry."
The teacher was speechless. "...what..."
"Here you go!" she handed it to her and skipped off to see what another kid was doing.
They had a galaxy/planet station set up where you could decorate your own planet. Casey took several and began working hard. After about 10 minutes, she had made the entire solar system, mumbling the names to herself. The rest of the day went by and she made lots of friends. She corrected the teacher a few times and by the end of the day, the young woman was absolutely shocked."So, how was your first day, kiddo?" Derrick asked.
"Good, daddy!" Casey grinned, hugging him.
The teacher walked over. "I...I think... Your daughter is a genius... She... She read my book, grade levels above the average reading level... She made a solar system, accurately corrected my grammar, spoke pretty good Spanish after reading a Spanish-English book... I... I don't know what to say... It's incredible!"
Casey grinned. "I try!"
Derrick glanced down at his adopted daughter and chuckled, ruffling her hair. "Good job, Casey."
He picked her up, said goodbye, and walked off."How'd you learn how?" Derrick asked on the drive home.
"I watched you and others or I figured it out!" Casey explained, grinning. "Are you proud of me?"
"Of course! I'm always proud of you, Casey," Derrick smiled.
Casey grinned back. Not long after, Derrick decided she'd learn much more if she was homeschooled. So he began teaching her himself... As well as he could, at least.
