Ray sat in a booth and Ginger walked in, sitting across from him hesitantly. She didn't want to come talk to him, but... It was something a text wouldn't resolve.
"Nice ring," Ray commented.
Ginger avoided his gaze and replied shortly, "Thanks."
Ray sighed. "Okay... Ginger... I'll just say it. I broke up with her first of all. Second of all... When I saw Rex again... I realized how stupid I was. And seeing you again, looking beautiful and with him and I just realized what an idiot I was and-"
Ginger finally looked at him, frowning. "What's the point, Ray?"
"I'm sorry..." Ray said, reaching for her hand.
She moved it away quickly. "Well, I appreciate your apology, but I'm engaged. You're way too late and even if I wasn't... How could I ever trust you after all that you did? You've only ever been after my family's money."
"That's not entirely true. That was the start of it, yes, but-"
"What do you want, Ray?" Ginger sighed.
"I want to...um... Have some time with Rex too... Maybe one weekend a month...? And after you finish up with your holiday stuff... I could hang out with him too? Like...like on Christmas, you could have him in the morning and I could have him for an hour or two after lunch?" Ray asked nervously.
Ginger stared at him in disbelief. Everything within her wanted to start screaming at him, but she controlled herself.
She sighed. "Fine... Major holidays. Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas. And you can come over on his birthday. And one Saturday every month you can have him, but only if he wants to go. And if I hear you did anything wrong or hurt him, I will make sure that you end up with a blackeye and a prison uniform. Are we clear?"
Ray gulped, never realizing how scary Ginger could be. "Yes ma'am."
"Why do you even want to do this?! You're the one who pressured me to give him up and thought he didn't matter and was mean to me and all you want to do is take my baby away to hurt me more, isn't it?!" Ginger began breaking down, tearing up.
Ray frowned. "Ginger... I realized I was an idiot and I want to spend some time with my son... And if you weren't engaged, I'd want to spend time with you too and make you understand how sorry I am... He's adorable and he has your beautiful eyes."
Ginger stood. "Just... I'll text you the days you can pick him up. Goodbye."
She turned and walked out, wiping away her tears. Everyone stared at Ray and he awkwardly cleared his throat.
"Check please...?" he asked meekly.
