With tears in her eyes, Ginger tuned out the words that were spoken in introduction and so on. She didn't want to embarrass herself so... She decided to not invite Aunt Nina to this, although she was starting to regret it. Their parents watched and she could almost feel their disapproval... Finally, she and Ray were asked to sign. She skimmed over it again just to make sure and then signed. She set down the pen with a shakey breath and looked over at Ray, who just stared at her.
"If it weren't for those twins, would you still be my wife?" Ray questioned.
Ginger bit her lip, thinking it through. "...I... I don't know... I think... I think you would've hurt me again as the breaking point in another way..."
Ray frowned but it was quickly covered up. "Well... Good luck. And leave them out of my life."
He quickly wrote a check and tossed it over before walking out with their parents and his lawyer, leaving only Ginger and her own lawyer. She took a shakey breath and picked up the check, wiping away a tear and standing.
"I'm so sorry, Miss-" the lawyer began.
"Ginger. Just Ginger. I don't want to be called either of my last names... Just Ginger, please..." Ginger almost pleaded, tearing up.
The woman sighed, frowning and hugging Ginger. Ginger began to cry quietly, hugging back tightly.
After a few moments, they pulled away and Ginger wiped away her tears.
"Thank you..." Ginger sniffed.
The lawyer frowned. "You're welcome... Good luck, Ginger."
She mumbled a 'thanks' and walked out, feeling empty inside. She was no longer a married woman... She sighed and placed a hand on her stomach, frowning. She would love them... And she would love them even more so they never felt like they needed a dad in their life. She began driving home alone.
Alone.
She felt so...so alone. She teared up as she parked and walked inside. She glanced at the calendar and noticed their one year anniversary was 2 weeks away. She bit her lip and then went to go take a nap, not in the mood for anymore sadness...
