A guard roughly grabbed Rylee's arm, pulling her off. "Sorry, kid, but today it's time to see what's hiding in your head."
Rylee got a glimpse of what he meant and her eyes widened. "You...you can't be serious..."
"You know I'm not kidding," he stated, rolling his eyes and pushing her into a room, locking the door. She glanced to the window, which she couldn't see through. But she knew they were watching her on the other side.
She took a deep breath and focused on him. "You do realize when he wanted you to research the origin of powers... He didn't want me to invade my grandfather's mind?"
A smug voice filled the room and she could feel the smirk. "I do things my way, Miss Johnson. Now do it!"
Robert's calmness threw her off as she walked over to him. "Hello, Rylee."
Rylee teared up and hugged him tightly. "Grandpa!"
"Relax. Just do your best," he winked then thought 'or pretend.'
Rylee smiled slightly and pulled away. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. After a while of just treading his consciousness like she did most of the time, they seemed to notice.
The one in charge of the research stomped in and roughly shook her. "Rylee! I said to get the memory out! Not to fake it! Do you think I'm stupid?!"
"I don't think-" Rylee began to argue quietly.
"You do realize I can call them here?" Robert questioned the young scientist.
He scowled and motioned for some guards to release him before Charles found out. "You're lucky, Johnson... But your granddaughter..."
He trailed off, staring...or glaring...at her. Robert started to protest as he was led out, but neither the scientist nor Rylee were listening.
"I think it's time you got some fresh air," he stated, grabbing her arm roughly and dragging her off.
"Sir, the children are not permitted to leave the property-" a guard began.
"It's essential to the research. Join me if you must," he said dismissively.
The guard frowned at his grip and gently pulled the girl beside him. "I will escort Rylee. Lead the way."
He grumbled and continued walking. After a car ride, they parked outside another facility. For people whose minds were... Rylee took a deep breath.
"No... no no no... Plea-" she began to beg then let out a sob.
The guard's eyes widened, but the scientist just dragged her inside. His eyes narrowed, but he followed them.
Once he brought Rylee to the center of the asylum, he placed a device over her head to monitor her brain and then something on her finger to monitor her pulse.
Rylee tried to resist all the insanity around her, but it began to consume her. She gasped in breaths, trying to fight them from taking her mind over and dragging them down with her. She let out a scream and then became limp, awake but...not conscious?
"Amazing..." the scientist murmured, recording the data.
The guard snapped and removed the monitoring from Rylee, throwing it at him before picking Rylee up bridal style and walking out.
"Hey! What are you doing?!" he demanded. The guard scowled. "There is a difference between research and torture, Mr. Lexan."
"Oh, please," the man scoffed. "She's fine-"
"You are fired," he snapped, getting in the car and driving off without him.The other scientists worked hard to bring her back, but they couldn't. They were just about to report it to Charles when Brooke and Brandon somehow...brought her back? They said they had thought things to her to bring her back. Ever since then, Rylee was terrified of Charles and the research and everything. But Rylee was strong. She'd never let her mind be broken again... Without a fight, at least.
