When Julia Was a Teen...

Julia was doing homework at home in her room when Fred knocked on her open door, leaning against the doorframe.
"Oh, hi," Julia greeted, looking over at him.
Fred smiled and walked in, sitting beside her. "Hey babe."
Julia smiled back. "Hi Fred."
"So, I bought you a present," Fred stated, grinning.
Julia smiled by instinct but quickly looked down. "You...um... You didn't have to do that, Fred..."
Fred gently tilted her head up with his hand and kissed her forehead. "You're worth it."
Julia involuntarily giggled, blushing slightly. Fred chuckled and reached in his pocket, pulling out a small box. He handed it to her. She smiled over at him then looked down at the box, opening it. Inside was a beautiful, expensive necklace that was a heart. The necklace had her favorite stone (besides diamond) in the center - ruby - which was perfect because red made it look more like a heart. Its outline was silver. It sparkled as she looked down at the present with wide eyes and an even wider smile. She turned to Fred, who was grinning at her reaction, and hugged him tightly.
"This is so sweet..." Julia beamed. "Thank you!"
"Anytime, babe," Fred replied. "Here, I'll help you get it on."
Julia, still with a beautiful, big smile on her face, pulled away and handed him the box back. She turned so her back was to him and gathered her hair in her hand, lifting it up. He smiled and picked up the necklace, putting it around her and doing the clasp for the necklace. She let her hair fall down again and turned to face him again, looking down at the necklace for a few moments.
"Thank you, Fred," she smiled, hugging him again tightly.
"I'm glad you like it," Fred replied, laughing. "So, what subject are you working on, Jules?"
Julia pulled away. "I'm working on math."
"Ooooohhhh," Fred said, smiling sheepishly. "Not my best subject..."
Julia laughed. "I know."
"Miss Julia! It's time for dinner," a maid said quickly before hurrying off.
"Want to join?" Julia offered.
"Of course, dear," Fred replied with a grin, kissing her cheek and standing, offering her a hand.
Julia laughed and took his hand, standing and walking out with him.

"It's good to see you here," Julia's father said to Fred.
"It's good to be here, Mr. Sanders," Fred replied with a grin.
Julia pushed some hair out of her face and kept eating, quiet.
"Hey, babe, where's Mrs. Sanders?" Fred asked.
Julia blinked a few times, not used to being talked to very much when Fred and her dad were together. "She um... Mom is in the UK."
"Ooohhhh," he replied. "Her favorite place, right?"
Julia nodded slightly. "Right..."
"Have you ever been to the UK?" Fred asked, keeping the conversation going.
She nodded, smiling. "I've visited several times with her."
Her father sighed slightly. "Yes... The girls do love the UK."
Julia looked down and just kept eating. Fred frowned slightly at her reaction for a moment but also kept eating.
Eventually, Fred and her father began talking about family businesses and so on. When Julia finished, she mumbled an 'excuse me' and walked out. The boys were too busy to notice. She walked outside and sat down on the front steps, looking up at the sky. She could really use her brother around now... But it wasn't going to happen. She couldn't decide if Fred was sweet or not. Fred's family was a long time business partner of her father. Both families were millionares and their businesses were flourishing. What Julia didn't know is they set the two up so they could combine the businesses when Fred took over... That was all there was to it. Fred genuinely liked Julia though... Lots of guys at their school did. She was beautiful, smart, kind...beautiful...
But he only chose her because his parents said so. A fact that - if she ever found out - would change everything...
