"I'm gonna get mom some of that sugary coffee stuff she likes so much since she's working late," Brandon said. "Be back later, okay?"
"Later," Jacob said distractedly, watching TV.
"Watching movies about dances isn't gonna help much," Brandon smirked before walking out.
Jacob just rolled his eyes and kept watching.

Brandon had picked up her favorite coffee with some money he had saved up and parked outside her workplace. He walked inside and got in the elevator. He walked over and saw she wasn't there. He frowned and walked over to her boss' office.
"Hey, Mr. Rebolo," Brandon greeted. "Where's my mom? I was going to bring her some coffee, but she wasn't there."
Mr. Rebolo frowned. "Brandon... I hate to be the one to tell you this, but... I got a call earlier... Your mother is dead."
Brandon froze. "W...what?"
"She had been struggling with a disease for a while and... She didn't have much longer... I thought you knew."
Brandon looked at the floor and then handed him the coffee. "Thanks for letting me know..."
As soon as he got in the van again, he began to sob. Why didn't she say anything?! His eyes widened in realization and he quickly began driving towards Rachel's house, where Rylee was. He was speeding quite a bit but didn't care at the time. He parked and ran over, knocking on the door frantically.
Rachel's dad answered. "Brandon?"
"I need to talk to Rylee... I need Rylee... RYLEE!"
Rylee's eyes widened, hearing the desperation, and she ran downstairs before anyone could react. "Brandon, what's wrong?!"
Kayla and Rachel followed, but stopped a bit further away, watching.
"Help!" Brandon cried, hugging her.
Rylee frowned, hugging back carefully. "Think about it, I'll listen..."
He was already thinking about it. Rylee closed her eyes, listening and frowning herself.
She pulled away. "Oh Brandon... I'm so sorry."
"Can't you bring her back?" Brandon asked, sniffing and wiping away his tears.
"I...I don't know, Brandon..." Rylee hesitated. "I can't really control my powers very well. I can only hear minor injuries..."
"But Rylee! I need your help...please..." Brandon pleaded. "I'm begging you."
"Brandon, I don't know what's going on, but Rylee isn't supposed to use her powers very much for a while. She's hurting enough not using them as it is," Kayla tried to explain.
"You saved Nina and you barely even knew her! Why not her?! It isn't fair! I thought I was more of a friend to you than Aspen!" Brandon glared. "I've defended you and cared for you for years and now you don't take my side when your powers are my only option!"
Rylee's eyes widened at his words and she didn't know what to say.
"Brandon!" Rachel crossed her arms. "Leave her alone! She could die if she heals anything major!"
"It didn't stop her before!" Brandon argued back. "But whatever. Choose them over me! I hope you're happy knowing she's gone forever because you couldn't do anything!"
Rylee's eyes widened and then she began to tear up.
"BRANDON!" Rachel's dad yelled. "GET OFF OF MY PROPERTY RIGHT NOW OR I'M CALLING THE POLICE!"
Brandon scowled and sulked off, slamming his car door and driving off. He cried as he drove, barely managing to stay on the road.
Tears flowed down Rylee's cheeks and she began to sob softly.
"Shh... It's alright dear..." Rachel's mother comforted her, pulling her into a hug.
But to Rylee, it wasn't okay...

Brandon walked in and slammed the door so hard that part of the house shook slightly. He stomped upstairs and slammed his bedroom door. Jacob and Calvin exchanged a look and shrugged, continuing to watch TV.
