Quinn O'Connell was the pretty girl in pink, the homecoming queen and all-around straight-A student. Most people saw her as uptight, narcissistic but most importantly... They saw her as a control freak with her perfect blonde hair and patronising sm...

True to her nod and her smile, at eight twenty five on Saturday morning Quinn was out the purple front door of the Hargreaves house, the walls that held so many of Quinn's very worst memories. The previous night, the blonde girl had been given a free pass from her usual bought of torture, the mayor being too drunk to even stand up, let alone chase his blonde step daughter through a huge estate. And Quinn was feeling suddenly elated at the fact that she had been freed for one night. Deep down, she knew that she was becoming numb to it all, accepting everything that happened in favour of focusing on her false little fairytale. Because nobody ever seemed to notice that she was suffering, and truly, she had begun to believe that nobody was going to care.
When she pulled up outside Bella Swans house and beeped from the curb at nine in the morning, Quinn O'Connell couldn't help but find the place absolutely charming with it's cutely painted wooden panels and wrap around porch, the garden a small slice of disarray. It was like a little palace to her and she stared at it longingly for a long time. Somehow, despite the lavish Manor House she had spent her past five years in, this little house held much more of an appeal to her eager blue eyes.
When Bella finally emerged through the painted front door, she was a stumbling mess down the steps, like a baby Bambi and Quinn found something so sweet about it. Bella was so innocent, unmarked by the harsh reality of the world and Quinn secretly loved that about her, her awkward smile and charming blushes. The brunette was looking up to be a good friend candidate, if Quinn ever decided to have one.
Flopping into the passenger seat, the Swan girl released a huff of air that swirled like mist in the air for a moment before evaporating. The weather was dropping, becoming colder recently as Quinn began to drive aimlessly around town, music playing gently in the background just to fill the obvious silence.
"Good morning" Bella smiled at her new friend, Quinn's blonde curls were released from their usual tight scrunchy and hung prettily around her slender shoulders. She resembled an angel, oddly reminding Bella of Rosalie Hale, the glaring beauty from the cafeteria but Quinn was warmer, kinder.
"Hey, heard anything from the elusive Edward Cullen?" Quinn smiled, she was yet again giving off the impression of an older sister and Bella found herself oddly comfortable with the dynamic, relaxing into the soft seats of Quinn's expensive car, breathing in the gentle scent of lavender that radiated from the air freshener. "I noticed he was in on Friday"
"Yeah he... he spoke to me in Biology"
"Oh?"
"Yeah, he apologised for being so... antisocial last time we met and said he was out of town for personal reasons" Bella stated, looking straight forward. She was so shy that it amused Quinn.
"... right. Personal reasons" she scoffed.
"What do you mean?" Bella was frowning.
"Well, don't you think it's a bit convenient? He suddenly goes out of town for personal reasons after being horrible to you and trying to switch classes?" Quinn frowned.
"I.... do you think it's because of me?"
"I don't know Bella. I don't know why he would suddenly go on a spiral, I figure it must be because of you. I just don't know why you effected him like that" Quinn frowned as she drove smoothly through Forks, it was second nature to her.... so much so that she wasn't really even paying attention as she drove familiar roads. They were on the outside of town, houses growing bigger and further apart by the minute. ".... do you like him?"
"What— what did you mean?" The blushing Bella was back and Quinn side eyed her with a frown before staring forward, her perfect teeth flashing for a second as she drove, her smile back. Bella had an odd fascination with Quinn O'Connell, she was absolutely stunning but she was so different from everyone Bella had ever met. She opposed the stereotypes that the new girl tried to put her in.
"You talk about him a lot, I mean, assuming that you don't like him" she rose an eyebrow at her. "Why do you care so much if he likes you or not?"
"I... I don't know" Bella suddenly breathed out. "He just... fascinates me. That probably sounds stupid" the brunette looked down at her hands folded delicately in her lap with a small sigh.
"It doesn't sound stupid Bella. Sometimes there isn't an explanation for why things turn out the way they do." her eyes were slightly glazed over and if Bella didn't know about Quinn's perfect driving skills, she would have become at least slightly concerned that they would crash.
"Well, Why... Why are you being friends with me? I mean, you're a senior, you're popular, rich... Why waste time with me?" Bella asked the question that she had been genuinely curious about, how had the brunette girl caught the attention of the valedictorian when from the words of everyone in town, Quinn O'Connell wasn't the type of girl to make friends.
"My life isn't perfect Bella" her voice came out as a sigh, as if this was the thing that she had been waiting to tell someone forever, Maddison Grey had an inkling of how imperfect Quinn's life was but nobody truly knew. Somehow, Bella Swan with her chocolate doe eyes and shy smile felt like the perfect candidate for a first true friend. "It isn't all some insanely incredible Cinderella story. My dad left when I was three, my mom was working as a trainee doctor at the time and was hardly ever home, he was jobless and she was picking up the slack. He left me with a neighbour and skipped town, I haven't heard from him since. I don't know what the people around town have told you Bella, but I'm not the girl that you described" and that was it, the first step into truly trusting someone, the beginning of a story that had led her to the most miserable she had ever been.
Quinn O'Connell didn't know where she expected this friendship to lead, she didn't know how much she was willing to tell the girl with the doe eyes, but so far, the kindness in Bella's eyes was enough to know that the shy girl was someone who could at least be trusted. Bella Swan didn't deserve the burden of dark secrets, all she dreamed of was a fairytale life that she could achieve, but fate certainly had different ideas for the brunette.
