Alice and Quinn sat side by side on the grand stairs of the Cullen house, watching the people that interacted in the main room. The seer rested her head gently in the crook of the newest vampires neck as they watched Carlisle assess Bella, Rosalie hovering protectively. Edward stood by the glass window, staring out over the forest as if he wasn't there at all. Bella was looking impossibly worse as the days went on, each day that the bump grew, she seemed to become weaker as if the baby was leeching off of her to live.

"Quinn" Alice's voice was quiet, weak and as Quinn looked at her, she couldn't help but smile solemnly. "Can you take my mind somewhere else?" she asked it in such a childish, broken way that it left Quinn frowning in shock before she took Alice's hand. The blonde girl and the pixie vampire were frozen in time for the longest moment- the seer had her eyes tightly closed and Quinn watched her with a fixed gaze.

Like all things, it inevitably came to an end when Bella hissed in pain from the baby kicking inside her. She lunged forward slightly where she sat, pressing her hand to her stomach with wide eyes while Rosalie fluttered helplessly at her side and Edwards back tensed where he was stood facing the trees.

"Try and get some sleep Bella" Carlisle's voice was like silk, flowing smoothly as he ushered her and the brunette blinked at him for a moment before nodding weakly and allowing Rosalie to arrange the blankets differently around her. Carlisle was quick to leave the room after that and Alice frowned at the blonde girl beside her.

"Is he okay?"

"He's stressed. He doesn't like seeing people in pain and he feels helpless because he doesn't know what to do to help" she informed lowly before patting Alice's knee and standing stiffly. "You should hunt Alice, Jasper and Jack are heading out in a minute, I'm sure they'd be happy for you to join them" Quinn ushered in a gentle voice as she turned to go and follow Carlisle at a much gentler pace. As she exited the room, she passed Esme who was carrying in a fresh pile of blankets for Bella. The two of them exchanged a tense smile for a moment before Quinn was off and along the corridor to Carlisle's office.

Quinn didn't knock as she reached the door, she merely opened the door to find the room kitted out with all the hospital supplies Carlisle could get his hands on, the doctor himself was sat at his desk with his head in his hands, looking over a scattered array of papers that Quinn couldn't understand. Pacing across the room easily, she was at his side in seconds.

Carlisle looked tired as he pulled his face from his hands- a physical impossibility as Quinn perched on his lap and he tucked his head into her hair, breathing in her beautiful scent as his arms held her firmly for strength. Quinn danced patterns along his back and was glad to feel the way he relaxed when she did. The Cullen house was in a constant state of tense stress, nobody quite knowing what to do besides sit and wallow together.

"Quinn" he whispered and she pulled back to look at him before smiling gently, kissing him to stop him from saying anything else.

"I know, Carlisle. It's okay. Everything's going to be okay" she promised him though they both knew that it wasn't for certain. He longed to be sat beside the waterfall in the meadow- Where all the stress he had was work stress. Now it was his family that was in danger and they all relied on him to be able to help them through.

"Is this what you'd have wanted?" he asked suddenly and she frowned, looking over his tense features. "Would you have wanted a baby? If we were both human, if it was possible... Would you have wanted a child?"

"Why are you asking me that, Carlisle? What difference will it make?" she questioned slowly and he blinked.

"I want to know what's going through your head, Quinn. It is okay to long for things that are impossible." he persisted and she frowned.

"I don't know" she answered, looking down at their hands that were resting together in her lap. "I don't know if I wanted children because I never had the chance to think about it. I lived with Jensen where my only worries were escaping- Escaping baby free preferably. I was terrified that in all the things that he did, I'd end up pregnant with his child but... I never-- It didn't happen," she frowned. "And I was glad about that. And then I met you and became a vampire and it wasn't a possibility. Not every woman wants children" she smiled tightly.

"I'm sorry, that you don't have that chance now"

"Carlisle, I have told you so many times before... Every time that this conversation has come up. I don't need anything. You are enough, you are more than enough. I love you so much Carlisle that you make everything worth it" she assured and kissed him, glad when he responded with intensity. "Would you like children?"

"I have children" he smiled tightly. "Our family has a confused dynamic, I know that. But I have children. Edward, Rosalie, Emmett, Alice and Jasper are my children. And Bella one day too. Which is why I must save them all" he persisted. "I can't lose Edward. And he's chosen not to live without Bella."

"If anyone can save them, it's you Carlisle"
