Quinn hummed to herself gently as she made her way down the garden path smoothly to the collection of vampires congregating in the treeline. Her hum crackled into a laugh, however, when she watched Edward crumble to his knees in pain at the touch of Kate Denali.
"I'm-I'm sorry" Bella stuttered out. "I told you I wasn't ready."
"Dude, you're not motivating her. "Emmett returned from where he stood with his arms crossed and Quinn rolled her eyes as she lept up into a tree branch- flexing all the muscles in her legs to do so. It was only when she was there that she perched to sit easily, like an owl to watch the events unfolding underneath her.
"Do you want to try?" Edward bit back at his brother and Emmett had the sense to put his hands up in resignation. There was a look of concentration on Bella's face then but the second Kate touched his neck- Edward went crumbling to the ground and Quinn breathed out through her teeth...It was not looking good in the shield department.
"Kate!" Bella demanded and there was anger on her tone now.
"You seem to lack incentive." Kate's voice was a beautiful hum though her words were deadly as she watched Bella's anger with a calm gaze. "Should I go and see if Renesmee's awake."
"Are you crazy?!" Bella demanded and Kate smirked.
"Alright," the blonde beamed. "This one's on full power" she informed and Edward's eyes grew wide as they flickered up to the girl in the tree above who was swinging her legs slightly as she watched with a blank expression and he frowned in slight fear of the pain. And the concentration was back on Bella's face again, though this time- As Edward screwed up his face and took Kate's hand- he didn't crumble to the ground. In fact, he calmed.
"It's painful but it's bearable" he breathed and a grin of victory fell on Bella's face as the others cheered.
"Okay, we should go again" the brunette nodded.
"Quinn's turn" Edward clapped and her face grew to one of horror before she sighed in resignation and hopped down to stand beside Bella.
"B- Don't mean to alarm you but if you let me get shocked too heavily, I might lose a few brain cells and bring my pyromaniac self to your cottage" she smirked with a wink and Bella just laughed as she pulled Quinn to stand beside her. This time, when Quinn put her hand into Kate's- she hissed and crumbled to her knees, instantly turning a deep glare on Bella. "You definitely did that on purpose."
"Maybe" the brunette hummed and Quinn glared as she hopped up to her feet, shaking her head.
"Again" and she looked up at Bella who nodded. The day went on in a much similar pattern, though eventually, Bella had a line of three vampires stood at her side- Emmett, Edward and Quinn as she did her best to shield them all. Though, this time- they were using Zafrina's gift which was much more effective for big crowds and much less painful.
"Anyone else still see the north pole?" Quinn laughed as she looked around her, at the end of the line. "I'm starting to think I'm not a very good incentive for Bella you know" and a hand grasped hers, which she recognised without her sight as Edwards.
"Come on Bella, I'm covered- Quinn's only a little bit further" he soothed and a long pause later, Quinn had her sight back. "You did it" Edward grinned when he saw Quinn blink rapidly, seeing the world once more at its entirety.
Bella had managed to get her shield to cover three people- which was a big stretch from where it had been at the beginning of the day.
"How are you feeling Bella?" Quinn questioned soothingly as the others disbanded slightly.
"Drained, like emotionally." the brunette huffed, looking down at her shoes.
"I know what you mean" the blonde returned with a tight smile. "The same thing happens to me, though- It gets easier each time you do it."
