"Quinn O'Connell" he read the name on the chart and the words seemed to roll right off of his tongue. Vaguely, she was aware of Charlie whisking Bella away and her anxiety spiked just from the absence of a familiar face. But somehow, among all her bubbling nerves, the sight of those beautiful golden eyes calmed her considerably.

"We've got to look after this one Carlise" Jackie beamed, catching the doctor slightly off-guard. "Her mother was the best doctor this hospital ever saw-- um--apart from you of course." she blushed and looked down but the pale man merely smiled.

"It's okay Jackie, go and see to Tyler. Quinn will be well looked after." there was an unwritten promise in his words as he scanned the charts, the lady scampering away. Alone now, Quinn could only be glad that she wasn't connected to a heart machine as her heartbeat hammered incessantly in her ears. "My name is Carlisle Cullen." he introduced, his golden eyes piercing into her and all she wanted was to meet his gaze, yet, she couldn't manage to, her eyes pinned on the hospital blanket wrapped around her.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Doctor Cullen."

"Carlise's fine" he returned and she looked up at him, finding a smile on his lips that seemed to calm her aching nerves. "Can I look at your head, Quinn?"

"Oh, oh... Yeah" she nodded and he reached slowly across and when his fingertips were merely inches away, her heat spluttered in worry and her warm hands grabbed his wrists, catching him off guard for a second time. He froze and stared down at her, not moving as she held his wrists and their eyes finally met. Just at that moment, seeing those beautiful blue orbs, Carlisle knew that his entire world was going to change. Quinn O'Connell was scared of him, but something in her eyes showed that she didn't want to be.

"It's okay Quinn, you're okay." Quinn couldn't quite work everything out but she trusted him at that moment, her hands slipping slowly from his wrists. It was as if Carlisle knew as he examined her gently, his touch soft and caring. "Thank you... All done" he smiled and pulled back. "Do you have any dizziness?"

"No, I think I'm okay" she smiled and pulled herself to the edge of the bed, his hand grabbed hers and she froze again, her eyes trailing from his fingertips clasping hers all the way up his arm and to his face which smiled gently. After a pause, she moved again and allowed him to pull her to her feet, she swayed for a moment and he tensed before her legs got stronger beneath her and she shook off all of the dizziness.

"Brilliant. You will probably need to take some pain medication and I wouldn't advise driving for the next few days. You could do with some rest, Quinn" she huffed slightly, completely opposed to his words. "Which means, you'll have to take a few days off of school. If you need anything, here's my number for my works mobile, if you need anything..." and he handed her a small piece of card. The blonde girl just stared at it for the longest time, not sure how to feel about this. Was this normal? Did doctors give patients their number regularly?

"Thank you... Carlisle... Can I go?"

"Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get hold of your emergency contact, the mayor seems to be busy so you'll have to wait here until he arrives to sign the release papers." he smiled softly, almost as though he knew everything, Quinn felt as though her act was so transparent with Carlisle Cullen because, in five minutes, he already seemed to have picked it apart. "It might be worth giving him a call... Feel free to sit in the waiting room... I'll be around the hospital if you need anything" he promised and she smiled softly.

Quinn O'Connell wandered the hospital corridors aimlessly for ten minutes before she finally built up the courage to phone him, but she knew that she wouldn't be able to leave until she did. Quinn was one of the unfortunate few who didn't turn eighteen until after graduation. Finally, Quinn came to her desired location in a corridor, this was the Elizabeth wing and on the wall, proudly in place was a framed portrait of her smiling mother.

Elizabeth O'Connell was absolutely beautiful, from her flowing blonde hair to her sparkling baby blue eyes, she was youthful even when she aged and she stood so elegantly. Elizabeth had been tall, her daughter sadly was short. While staring into the photographed and preserved eyes of her mother, she gasped in air and finally pressed the call button, her heart hammering along like a steam train.

"Quinny" his voice was crisp and clipped, he wasn't in a good mood and she was unfortunate enough to have to face that in a few short moments. "Tell me why I have just received a phone call from your high school wishing you well and asking for your car to be collected."

"I... There was an accident. I'm at the hospital... Can you please come and get me?" her voice was quiet, weakly timid which was something that nobody at Forks High would ever call Quinn O'Connell, she was someone else in her step-father's presence and she was utterly terrified. He just laughed at her question, not agreeing nor disagreeing before hanging up and she was left staring at the expensive phone he had gifted her.

"Hi Quinn, do you need a lift?" Charlie wondered and she turned to face him, vaguely aware of the Cullens in the distance. Carlisle, Edward and Rosalie were stood in a huddle, speaking furiously to one another with Bella fast approaching. That was why Charlie was still here because Bella was adamant on getting answers.

"Thanks, Charlie but I have to wait for my papers to get signed." she smiled softly and he nodded sadly, he didn't understand his own aversion to the mayor but he had a sadness in him at the thought of allowing her to go home with the suited man. He couldn't be trusted in the chiefs book and as a cop, Charlie liked to think that he was a good judge of character.

"Well, let me know if you need anything Kid, I'm gonna wait outside until Bella's done" he suddenly became awkward, not knowing what to say now before he scrambled off and left her on her own, smiling gently. Softly, the blonde turned back to face her mother's image.

Elizabeth O'Connell had been beautiful.
