Quinn sighed to herself as she wandered aimlessly around the Cullen house, waiting for Carlisles shift to end. She felt much better than she had throughout the day- now that the family were all home and none of them would ever know how she felt in their absence. She didn't want them to. Because truthfully, what more could they do? The people had given her everything they had and offered her a place in their family eagerly. Telling them that she was still unhappy at times seemed like she was overstepping a mark.

The sound of sweet piano music drew her away from the kitchen and down the stairs to the main room where she smiled at the sight of her best friend playing away on his piano. Edward no doubt knew that she was there but he continued playing anyway, even as she took a seat on the couch and closed her eyes. It was the closest to sleep she supposed the vampires could get.

As if playing only for her now, Edward proceeded to play her favourites, the ones she'd eagerly listened to before as he drove her around town in his Volvo. It was at that moment, as he played the songs for her, that Quinn and Edward realised how much they knew one another. He knew the songs to play to make her relax and she knew to sit and listen quietly as he did so. When the songs drew to a close, he removed his hands from the keys and watched where she sat, staring aimlessly into space.

Quinn O'Connell was one of the few people whose minds Edward chose not to read. He did his very best to keep out of it- out of respect. Quinn held dark thoughts often which was only to be expected but he felt so invasive reading them, despite knowing that she wouldn't mind him doing so. Taking a seat and wrapping an arm around her shoulder casually, it felt so normal to have Quinn O'Connell lean into his side softly.

It was perplexing for them all to think that little over a year ago, they had all lived peacefully side by side without ever crossing paths. Edward had passed Quinn in the hallway every day, never even aware of her thoughts or where they would find themselves in a short while. Though neither he nor she could bring themselves to regret any of the decisions made regarding one another since then.

"How are you doing, Quinn?"

"I'm surviving" she returned and it was the only answer he needed. He knew she wasn't okay. While travelling, she had been. She'd been something far better than okay but Forks Washington and the isolation of loneliness did strange things to the mind. Hearing that she was surviving was enough for his worry to simmer down- he knew she was safe because Quinn kept on surviving, waiting for the good days to come back around.

"Bella isn't grounded anymore," Edward informed, knowing not to question anymore on the previous subject at that time.

"Oh? How come?"

"Well, Her father has said she isn't grounded anymore as long as she sees some of her other friends as well as me. She's visiting that Jacob." He huffed.

"The dog?" As much as Quinn didn't want to be prejudice, she was a Cullen and everything she had learnt about the shifter pack had come from the Cullens mouths. They were very biased but they were her family through and through and she would support them as such.

"Yep" Edward popped, clearly unhappy about the newest development and his best friend smiled sadly up at him.

"He's no competition Ed, Bella doesn't even fancy him," she promised, trying to reassure her hero-haired friend but his expression remained bitter.

"But he fancies her" he huffed. "And I can't help but think that he must be better for her than I am. She can grow old with him, have children with him" he expressed with stress in his voice as he turned to her and she blinked calmly.

"Believe it or not, those are two things that not everyone wants. Some people just want hopeless romantic love like in the novels. And by 'some people', I mean Bella. She's a literature lover, and you're her Romeo. Okay? Stop doubting yourself and self-destructing your own relationship Edward. You're allowed to be selfish with the things you love. Besides, a girl loves a boy who's willing to fight to be with them" Quinn nodded to herself and the mind reader sighed but accepted her response.

"I'm just worried. Deciding to turn into a vampire- it just doesn't happen. People don't choose it. And you can't tell me you haven't wished to be human even once since turning. I'm worried that she is going to turn and then regret it and blame me" he expressed.

"Well then, you just need to make sure you prove to her how good the vampire life can be. She's made her decision Edward, now all you can do is to support it and make sure she has the best possible life. She won't blame you for this, even if she does regret it. We've all given her enough criticism for it already, she knows this is all her own decision." She shrugged, patting his shoulder soothingly. "And you're right. I miss being able to eat, maybe you should take her to an all you can eat buffet before she turns" Quinn teased, lightening the conversation and he was happy for it as he scoffed and shoulder bumped her.
