Quinn stood quietly under the twilight lit sky, waiting patiently with tense muscles with her family. They were like a grouping of statues and her eyes flickered over to the love of her life as he finally spoke, a long time into their standing game.
"Are you sure this is where you saw her?" he questioned Alice with a gentle voice, he wasn't questioning her ability to see the future, he was just strengthening what they already knew. Recently, Alice had grown tense from her lack of sight and Jasper stood at her side softly, reassuringly as he assessed the forest. Despite the looks of worry and anticipation on his families faces, Emmett was beaming in excitement at the prospect of a chase. Emmett loved fighting.
"She's almost here" Alice informed and Quinn flexed her legs, ears straining and eyes scanning the forest as she waited with Esme smiling nervously at her side. They all knew that with Edward gone to Jacksonville, Quinn was the fastest remaining in the group and it was clear that she was raring to go. The silence and anticipation were broken in a moment. "On your left!" Quinn left them in the dust in a moment as she saw a flash of red hair.
Carlisle and Esme quickly fell to the back of the pack and Carlisle growled at softly as he lept over a boulder as he attempted to keep up with his mate, afraid to have her out of his sight for what may happen but he knew deep down that she could hold her own in a fight. Emmett and Rosalie were the closest to Quinn as she raced on, running elegantly like a gazelle, very similarly to Edward as she lept like a cat over fallen trees and streams. Victoria was just out of reach as Quinn grasped outwards and she growled as she came up with nothing but a handful of hair.
Emmett was next to lunge for the ginger and he was promptly thrown away, flying through the air and smashing straight into a tree that creaked and cried at his force. Quinn lost focus for just a second, giving Victoria a headstart and the newest vampire growled out as she threw herself at where the ginger was. Locking her arms in a vice-like grip around the ginger, they both went down, rolling along the braken and branches of the forest floor before Victoria planted all her force against the blonde and sent her flying. Quinn grumbled as she was forced to dig her foot into the earth to reduce the momentum, Victoria completely gone from her vision.
"Are you okay, my love?" Carlisle questioned in worry as he helped her to her feet and she smiled reassuringly as they were off again, running in search of Victoria. Soon, their feet skidded to a stop as they neared the edge of the cavern and Carlisle shrouded an arm around his fiance to keep her from falling. "Wait, she's in their territory now" he informed calmly and Quinn got her very first sight of the Quillette werewolves. They were bigger than any of them expected and Jasper and Emmett continued to chase her on the parellel side, waiting for her to cross back over as the wolves were hot on her heel.
"She's going to get away" Alice resigned softly and Esme took her hand with a gentle smile. Carlisle, on the other hand, kept his eyes pinned on the two vampires that continued to chase the ginger.
"Emmett, No!" Rosalie hollered as he leapt across, arms out to catch the nomad. If not for the treaty line- They would have caught Victoria that day but instead of catching the ginger vampire in his arms- Emmett was thrown down into the stream by the great beast of a wolf that growled angrily at him where they stood.
As they all made their way back toward the house, Emmett was noticeably angry as his clothes stuck to his toned body due to the water he'd splashed in. Rosalie sighed and made her way to where he marched away from the group. He needed calming down before Esme would let me him anywhere near her expensive furniture. Jack took Esme calmly into his arms, walking side-by-side as the trees became wider apart. They were adorable together and Quinn had no doubt that they would be engaged next.
"It's been a long night." Carlisle sighed and she smiled up at him, wrapping her arm around his waist and squeezing him slightly- all just to see the smile that stretched onto his face when she did. Quinn made Carlisle feel alive and it was a feeling he could never get enough of. She made him feel young.
"Do you have work tomorrow?" She questioned softly as the two of them entered the house, Esme softly flicking on lights as they did so to pool them in a warmth as Alice and Jasper took a seat with a sigh. Vampires couldn't get tired but emotionally, they were all exhausted.
"Not tomorrow" he smiled at her and she returned with a beam as the two of them made their way to the stairs, feeling slightly happier. "We need to phone Edward"
"And I need a shower" she giggled, pointing to the leaves that were caught in her hair, he laughed loudly, picking a few out bit knowing that she was right about needing a shower, mud painting some of her blonde curls.
"Let's phone Edward" he smiled as they took a seat beside one another on the bed and Quinn pulled her new phone from her pocket- curtesy of Alice who had transferred her number across from her old one. Pressing her best friends phone number- he answered instantly. Edward always answered quickly.
"Hello?" The way he almost whispered down the phone was a good enough indication as any that Bella was asleep.
"Hi Ed. How you doing?" She teased and Carlisle chuckled, shaking his head as he did so.
"... marvellous" he dead panned and she laughed. "What happened tonight?"
"Well we didn't catch any red heads." She grumbled. "I'll let Carlisle give you the details, I'm still picking leaves out of my hair." She laughed and handed the phone to the love of her life who rolled his warm gold eyes and accepted the phone calmly as she danced off to shower.
