Quinn O'Connell was the pretty girl in pink, the homecoming queen and all-around straight-A student. Most people saw her as uptight, narcissistic but most importantly... They saw her as a control freak with her perfect blonde hair and patronising sm...

The shopping mall was positively packed with humans- all bustling about in excitement for the upcoming celebratory day. Quinn wished that she could share in the excitement but truthfully- they were just celebrating Christmas for Renesmee's sake, her very first one- and potentially the last one would be ruined with the prospect of war but Esme was insisting that they buy everyone at the house a gift- All of the guests as well as one another too.
"What are you going to get Carlisle, Quinn?" Rosalie questioned as the two of them walked arm in arm through the store with Esme at their side- the mother scanning over her shopping list with an expression of contemplation. "Because Carlisle brought you an island! For your birthday... We don't even age" she giggled, the Christmas spirit somehow managing to rub off on her slightly.
"I was hoping you would help me with that actually" Quinn hummed and Rosalie smiled curiously. "As long as I have known Carlisle, he's had the same car. But a few weeks ago he was talking about buying a new one when all of this is over?"
"So you want to buy him one" Rosalie grinned. "Perfect, the new Mercedes that's been released is beautiful" and she promptly began babbling about cars in a way that only Rosalie could. Esme, stood a few feet ahead of them- looked back, purely to roll her eyes in her daughter's direction as they entered a children's store, the day was all about Renesmee after all.
"Rosalie, can we talk about this later, darling? We have to get things for Renesmee" Esme smiled and Rosalie huffed but otherwise said nothing more on the subject of cars as they made their way through the store- Rosalie collecting all manner of things that she deemed worthy for her beautiful niece.
"You know, Christmas isn't the same without Alice" Rosalie moaned a short while later as they moved on to the next store- they were hoping to collect all the things they needed within that one day so that they wouldn't have to come back out again until after Christmas was over. "If she was here, the shopping would all already be done. And the house would be decorated."
"I know" Esme mused. "I miss her too but... She must have left for a reason- Alice wouldn't just leave us all in the dark without a good explanation. She's done what she has to do."
"I know, but it's just a bit upsetting, you know? She didn't even say goodbye to our faces?" the older blonde stated with a small frown and Quinn knotted her fingers through hers in a gesture that calmed the older vampire.
"Whatever she saw... She doesn't want Edward to see. Because if Edward sees- Aro will too" Quinn frowned, explaining the assumption that she had come to over the past few days as she thought deeply about it.
"Or you" Esme prompted. "You can see in her head better than Edward can"
"Yeah, I suppose" she blinked in return and Esme rubbed her arm reassuringly as they entered the bookstore to collect something for Arthur- who was very similar to Carlisle in many ways. "How is Jack doing with all of this? I haven't spoken to him in a while."
"He's okay, I think... Given the circumstances" the matriarch sighed. "He enjoys having his family close, he may have joined us but he was a Denali first- It's nice for him, to be reunited with them, even if just for a short amount of time. He feels betrayed by Irina though, she was his sister. I don't know what will happen to her- at the battle. She's sided with the Volturi."
"I know... Either we die- and she is left abandoned by everyone she once loved... Or she dies, for false information" Rosalie frowned.
"I'm hoping for neither" the mother groaned out. "How is Carlisle, Quinn? He has been quiet for the past few days."
"He's struggling Esme, and I don't know how to help him. I've never seen him like this before. He's so worried. He thinks he is going to fail everyone, that he owes it to us all to keep us safe." Quinn blinked, shaking her head as she tried to explain and her mother figure cuddled her arm gently as they walked along, the many bags in their hands bumping into their bodies as they walked through the bustling time.
"Carlisle's just like that" Rosalie informed calmly. "He created us and so he thinks it is something of his responsibility to keep us all safe."
"That's not it Rose" Esme countered. "It's not because he created you... It's because we are his family. Carlisle is such a compassionate man, Quinn. He regrets what he had to do to keep us alive but he will always protect us, as best he can. He would die for us all"
"That's what scares me" Quinn breathed. "He's so eager to sacrifice himself for us... He isn't even worried about himself- He's just worried about us. I can't live without him, Esme" she breathed out in a horrified whisper at just the thought of it.
"I know, Quinn. It's going to be okay" she tried her best to console them as they walked through the crowds of people who were overjoyed with the upcoming Christmas and the prospect of snow that lingered in the air.
"Quinn, you're my sister." Rosalie breathed. "And I love you... I will always be here for you."
