The trip from Forks Washington to Denali Alaska was a long one, but after the first five hours, Carlisle Cullen finally relaxed, singing along to the radio with his little love. She found herself surprisingly shocked by his song knowledge but didn't question it as they sang loudly, speeding along the road as Carlisle raced Emmett joyfully, easily winning. The windows were down in all five of their cars, the sun shining and music blaring. It was enchanting and even Edward, in his bitter mood, couldn't help but smile slightly at the others' joy.
Quinn sat with her legs stretched over Carlisle's lap, the blond doctor had one hand on the steering wheel and the other lap on her leg softly as he chuckled. Road tripping wasn't the worst thing in the world.
"Let's play a game" Carlisle decided. "Twenty questions," he decided and she grinned, nodding eagerly, pulling her legs closed to cross them, sitting up.
"Ooh, I'll start." she beamed. "What's your favourite colour?"
"Blue. Yours?"
"Yellow" she responded and he made a mental note of it.
"When is your birthday?"
"My birthday was July 15th"
"What? We missed it?" he suddenly snapped out of the questions."Why didn't you say anything?"
"Vampires don't age Carlisle. I'm living at nearly seventeen for eternity." she smiled. "When is yours?"
"October eleventh I believe." he hummed.
"You believe?"
"I forgot" he chuckled at her look of horror. "That tends to happen when you don't celebrate it... If you were human, what would your perfect life look like in ten years?" he questioned and she frowned as she considered it.
"I would probably be living in the O'Connell cottage, with you. " she beamed. "And we'd have a dog."
"A dog?" he chuckled. "No children?"
"I never really thought about having children" she shrugged. "Besides, if I have you. I won't need children" Quinn grinned.
"What sort of dog?"
"Ooh, something fluffy." she beamed. "But not too big, just an average-sized dog." she frowned, thinking about it intently and he chuckled.
"We can get a dog" he shrugged and she looked at him in shock and excitement.
"We can?!"
"Of course, anything for you" he smiled gently and she leant across to kiss his cheek. "So, aside from the dog. Which is a work in progress... You can easily have your perfect life?"
"That's because I'm already living it" she beamed and he couldn't help but smile in return. "What about you?"
"As much as I dislike what we are... I'm already living my perfect life too. I'm happy in the knowledge that I have you forever" he smiled and she returned it happily.
"Have you ever had a relationship before?" she questioned him and he glanced across at her for a moment.
"Twice"
"Ooooh, details" she beamed eagerly and he chuckled.
"When I was human, I was courting a woman. We were intended to be married. I did not know her very well, relationships were very different then and I was a big follower of the bible." he shrugged.
"And the other?" she wiggled her eyebrows teasingly as he scoffed.
"Before I met Edward, there was a woman. A vampire, Lily. We travelled together. We both knew that eventually, we would find our true partners but it was nice to have some companionship" he chuckled at her expression. "Don't worry, she found her true partner long before I did, before I ever even met Edward" he shrugged.
"Where is Lily now?"
"I don't know, I haven't spoken to her since.." he frowned, thinking about it. "Since before we found Esme... Have you? Ever had other relationships?"
"I never really had time for a boyfriend." she shrugged. "Not with Jensen and all that came with him."
"Ah, yes." he didn't ask any other questions about it and she didn't ask any more about Lily though she was curious, the idea of Carlisle with another woman filled her with bitter jealousy but she resisted it. "Are you an indoor or an outdoor person?" he questioned and they looked over at one another, before answering simultaneously. "Indoor." to this, they chuckled.
"Are you a romantic person?" she questioned before smiling. "Of course you are." she giggled, answering her own question and he chuckled at her before the in-car phone began to ring and they answered it.
"Hello?" Carlisle questioned.
"We're stopping for at the next gas station, are you pulling in too?" It was Jasper and he jumped straight to the point, the jeep in front swerving and weaving around the other cars as Emmett grew impatient of driving in a straight line.
"Yes" and then Jasper hung up, he was always rather blunt. Quinn glanced back through the window, her hair still billowing in the wind and caught sight of Esme who smiled sweetly at her. Quinn made a strange stopping motion with her hands and Esme frowned for a minute before laughing and nodding, giving her a thumbs-up before they all collectively slowed.
At the gas station, they all pulled in and stepped out, filling up and chatting. Quinn took some easy steps toward Edward, leaning against the Volvo as he filled it up and he glanced down at her for a moment with broken-hearted eyes before looking away.
"How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine, thank you," he spoke bluntly and she knew that he was far from alright.
"Edward, I know you don't want to talk about it. But I'm here when you do. You were the first person I spoke to about the worst thing that ever happened to me, the first person I told everything too. So, if you ever do want to talk... I'd be happy to return the favour Edward, you're my best friend."
"And you're mine" he sighed. "I just figured that not talking about it would be better, I just feel lost."
"I'm not going to pretend to know how you feel Edward, because I don't but I know that you're in pain and I do understand that. You don't know it now, but it will get better."
"I just hope I made the right decision" he sighed.
"You haven't done anything that can't be undone. You acted so selflessly, I wish I had that much control." She smiled and kissed his cheek softly before returning to Carlisle's side now that they were all filled up. Making up over their argument from before, Alice and Rosalie now slid into the BMW together, Rosalie eager to drive and Emmett yet again drove the jeep, though he now had Jasper at his side. Quinn gratefully accepted the keys and hopped in, excited to drive. After a moment of revving their engines, much to Carlisle's annoyance and displeasure, they took off at great speeds yet again.
Quinn beamed as she raced Rosalie and Emmett down the road, easily overtaking the jeep but Rosalie wasn't backing down. The two blondes looked across at one another, beaming as they sped along. Road tripping with the Cullens was brilliant fun.
