"You were leaving" Jacob stressed, "What else was I supposed to do?"
"You don't understand the danger you've put him in" Bella stressed to her best friend and Edward looked slightly appalled, eyes flashing around to look up at Quinn and Carlisle who were stood on the balcony above- it was apparent that they could hear the happenings on the ground floor. "The Volturi will kill anybody who knows about us,"
"No, I didn't tell him about you." Jacob sighed. "Just me, I only said you were different."
"And that we have a niece" Edward scoffed out in irritation. "Who we adopted."
"I mean seriously, Jake. He's not just gonna let that go" Bella tried and Edward huffed, pulling her close to stand beside him as he continued.
"Do you consider the physical pain you're putting Bella through? It will be like sticking a white-hot branding iron down her throat." when he said it, Bella blinked in shock- clearly that having been something she hadn't thought about. "And that's assuming she can control her thirst."
"Look" Jacob swallowed. "Charlie's been in hell and I know you'll be much happier with him in your life."
"Jacob, don't try and pretend that you're doing this for anyone but yourself." Edward blinked.
"I'm sorry you feel that way" the wolf sighed before continuing. "Because he'll be here in ten minutes." and Quinn was at Bella's side in an instant, aware of the horrified eyes of Edward landing on her.
"Bella, come on. You need to take a human lesson... Stat." the blonde persisted as she half carried Bella into the house. When they entered the main room again, Alice and the others were already waiting and the seer quickly shoved Bella to sit as Quinn sighed and dropped down into one of the many armchairs.
"These will irritate your eyes at first" Alice informed as she pulled out a pair of contacts and Quinn looked up at Carlisle who had a tight expression on his face, there was all number of ways the situation could go- very few of them being positive.
"The main thing is to not move too fast" Carlisle informed her easily, the lesson he had had to teach all of them at some point.
"Walk with me, Bells" Quinn encouraged with a smile and she took her friend's hand, guiding her to walk slowly across the room with her. The brunette seemed to glitch across the room as she attempted to keep pace with Quinn who- to her- was moving achingly slowly. "Maybe... Just stay sat down" she laughed nervously and pushed Bella to sit in an armchair. "Cross your legs" and she did.
"Um... Maye a tad slower" Esme pointed out when she saw the speed in which Bella threw one leg over the other and Carlisle put on his best reassuring smile, holding his fingers up to show a small size gesture; aware of the giggle it earned from Quinn.
"Blink at least three times a minute" Alice informed and Bella did so. "Good"
"For a cartoon character" Jacob sighed and Quinn threw a cushion at him- perhaps a bit aggressively as she tucked her legs up underneath her in her armchair again. The wolf only then realised how incredible they all were at acting human. Though, after a while, it all just became instinct.
"Hold your breath, it will help with the thirst" Jack popped in his own advice.
"Just don't forget to move your shoulders so it looks like your breathing" Edward smiled and the vampires in the room collectively demonstrated before chuckling when they noticed their synchrony.
"And don't sit so straight" Rosalie smiled. "Humans don't do that" and that was enough of the vampire 101 for Bella who stood up with a sigh.
"Okay, I've got it. Move around, blink, slouch" she shrugged. It was the sound of the police cruiser pulling up beneath them that had them all acting and Quinn vanished in a second. The blonde girl slowed her movements and opened the door smoothly, smiling sweetly at the man as he stepped out of the cruiser and he smiled warmly when he saw her.
"Hi Quinn"
"Hey, Charlie" she returned and made her way to him, pulling him into a gentle, welcoming hug that he returned easily- only slightly uncomfortably. "It's good to see you, how have you been doing?"
"Better now I know my girl's okay. You been looking after her Quinn?"
"Always, Charlie" the girl promised as she held the door open for him and gently guided the nervous man through the house. As she entered the main room- she found it mostly empty, safe for Bella and Jacob and Quinn winked at the newborn once, reassuringly which made Bella smile in appreciation. Carlisle stood calmly in the doorway and Quinn smiled as she joined his side, wrapping an arm around the doctor's waist- only slightly to the surprise of Charlie.
But the police chief got over his concern quickly and smiled- a smile of pride that warmed Quinn's heart. Despite how distant the two were from one another- Charlie was as close to a father as Quinn had ever had. And he was accepting of her new relationship.
"Bella" Charlie frowned, looking at the beautiful brunette on the couch. "Are you okay?"
"Never better" she smiled. "Healthy as a horse"
"You don't turn into an animal too, do you?" he wondered aloud, looking at Jacob with concern and the tension was diffused- the group laughing slightly.
"She wishes she was that awesome" Jacob clapped and they all exchanged glances before leaving the room together.
