Silence fell heavily upon Edward Cullen and Quinn O'Connell as they began their long drive back to Forks Washington, for the first time since their very first discussion in the hospital- Quinn felt utterly unreachable to the older vampire. Her face, beautiful as it was, seemed to have been carved from stone like a hauntingly stunning Greek statue as she took great interest in the raindrops that rolled steadily along the windowpane.

As utterly against peeking into her head as Edward Cullen was, seeing her unmoving face and unblinking eyes scared him more. He didn't at all expect what he found there, there was nothing. Quinn was thinking of nothing and as confused as he was, he knew she had not suddenly developed Bella's power. He could feel that he was inside her thoughts but there was nothing there, no thoughts to read as her glazed over eyes stared unseeingly.

"Quinn" he breathed so suddenly that he startled himself as he drove, for the first time in all of his vampire life, he considered that he could crash due to how distracted he was in that moment.

"I think I'm going crazy" she shuddered out in such a paranoid voice, it shot a bolt of fear through him. She was trembling and her voice was breaking and he knew for certain that she wasn't okay. For the first time since catching her in the rainy, crowded street- Edward got a glimpse of what had happened in the shopping centre as it played on repeat in her mind suddenly. "I-I was just walking, looking for the shop and then-" she recalled, "I don't know what happened."

"Quinn, you aren't going crazy. Panic Attacks can be caused by stress, and stress is something that vampires can experience. You're just as sane as I am, please, it's okay. You're okay" he soothed in the calmest voice he could muster and she shuddered, pressing her hands over her eyes in a bid to stop herself from breaking down for the second time that day.

Pulling over quickly at the nearest possible pausing place, Edward pressed the button at her hip to release the seatbelt that bound her and the two of them hugged furiously in a moment. Nothing else mattered as she cried and he held her. Pulling her across, her back shifting to face Edwards driver side door and her legs draping across the central console, she ended up sat in his lap and as she leant her forehead against his neck, she broke out in sobs again and her best friend held her tightly.

Placing his chin on the top of her head, his hand holding the back of it and the other circled around her calmingly, Edward was overwhelmed with the need to cry as he heard the sobs that wracked through her continually. Quinn and Edward didn't know what they were to one another, the both of them were furiously in love with their respective soulmates but something about one another was oh-reassuring. They needed one another and the thought of being without one another was gut-wrenching.

Nothing else mattered besides the fact that they needed one another, that they understood one another. And Edward knew for certain that if Carlisle had seen the way Quinn ran in a panic through the rain- he would want someone to hold her as she sobbed and tell her it was all going to be okay. And Bella knew that Edward and Quinn were the best of friends. Sometimes, that kind of bond was irreplaceable.

To the outside world, it would seem weird, the way the two of them sat and held onto each other tightly as the rain hammered around the car but to them, it was what they needed at that moment to stop them from completely falling apart. As Quinn dragged herself back into the passenger seat, she felt a hundred times better from the hug alone. Sometimes all you need is a hug and some reassurance.

"I'm sorry"

"Never say that, not to me Quinn. Never apologise to me for feeling the way that you do. Every emotion that you feel is so viable, you deserve to be able to feel however you feel without judgement. And know that nothing you feel will ever make me feel anything bad about you. You'll always be my best friend, and you'll always be the strongest person I have ever met." he implored her strongly and as she looked into his intense golden eyes, she nodded.

"I thought I saw him"

"I know... And I will look into it" he promised and she frowned.

"No. But you don't think he could be?" she stuttered.

"I don't think he is back from the dead Quinn and I don't doubt that he died, that James killed him but I need to check, to give you some peace of mind... To give me some peace of mine, I just need to check. What would be worse? If you were really seeing things that weren't there... Or if he was really back?"

"I don't understand what happened Edward, one minute I was the happiest I have ever been... I felt complete, I had everything I have ever wanted. And then... It all just fell apart because of a newspaper article" she frowned. "It's like I'm sitting on some screwed up carousel, the sooner I get away from the pain and start to feel happy again, I'm back at the start and every single time, I feel sicker and sicker... I just want to get off of the carousel Edward."

"I know Quinn, and I don't yet know what I can do to help you with that but I promise you that I am here for you, to help you with anything you need help with. You have me Quinn and you will always have me."
