Chapter 2-Meeting in A Coffee Shop

Rory is sitting in the back of a coffee shop in Manhattan, New York on a hot August day reading a book on her kindle. She is waiting for Billy, her ex-husband to return her twin boys. The twins have spent the summer with Billy and his family in Florida. She checks her watch; Billy texted when they landed. They should be here in about 15 minutes, she hopes. She enjoys the quiet in the coffee shop. Not too many people. As she sits drinking her coffee and reading, she hears the bell over the door ring as someone walks in. This takes her back to the many times she heard the bell over the door at Luke's ring. She looked up and smiled. Then she froze. Logan. Logan Huntzburger.

Logan had been walking to the coffee shop. It was down the street from his Apartment. He was busy answering emails on his phone. He wasn't paying attention to who was in the coffee shop. When he got to the counter to order, he looked up. His eyes automatically went to Rory. Wow, Rory Gilmore in the flesh. He ordered his coffee and a muffin and went to her table. He asked if he could sit. She replied "sure". They sat there for a few minutes before Logan spoke.

Logan "Well, what brings you to the big city. Last I heard you were living in the Sunshine State, soaking up all the sun."

Rory "You are behind times. I moved to Hartford right after my grandma died. She left me the house so I fixed it up to be in my taste and kid-friendly."

Before Logan could say anything else, two whirlwinds came rushing in attacking Rory.

Chris and Will- "Mommy, Mama we are here."

Rory grab both boys hugging and kissing them, "I have missed you sooooo much."

Logan moves his chair back out of the way. He remembers hearing Rory had two children and was married to a pilot. He turns around to see a tall dark-haired man pulling behind him one suitcase and two backpacks. This must be Rory's husband, the pilot.

Billy comes through the door of the coffee shop, trying to keep up with the twins. He is smiling at how they are attaching Rory. He walks to the table and tells the twins, "please be careful, you will knock mom's coffee over and burn yourself." Both boys sit down next to their mother, holding her hands. She is in heaven. Both her boys are back home and she is ready to get them started in pre-school next week. It was easy getting them into Chilton. Max Madina is the headmaster and welcomed them. Rory didn't have to worry about paying for Chilton like her mother did. She had the money and Billy paid for half.

Logan stood up to leave and Rory remembered her manners. "Billy this is Logan, I went to Yale with him and Logan this is Billy, my ex-husband." Both men shook hands. Logon said. "I have to go back to work, maybe we can catch up some other time."

Rory says sure and hands him her card after writing her cell number on the back. Logan smiles and puts the card in his pocket and heads out the door. Rory Gilmore, divorced with 2 small children. Hum, he thought, this could be interesting as he slipped his hand in his pocket to make sure the card was really there.

Rory watches Logan leave the coffee shop. Logan Huntzburger. She heard through the grapevine (Stephanie and Juliet) that he was back on the East coast. She would have to Google him. She smiled and look up at Billy who was watching her.

Billy- "the Logan?" raising his eyebrow.

Rory- "yes, and the problem with that is?"

Billy- "oh, no problem, but remember, we promised each other that we as the parents of Will and Chris, will be able to meet the person that will be spending any time with them."

Rory- "I haven't forgotten. Speaking of meetings, how is Melissa?"

Billy=" She is fine", I have not introduced her to the boys."

Rory- "well, when do you plan on introducing her. I've met her. She and I have already talked and she understands her role as far as my children are concerned."

Billy- "Our children. We talked about it, she is moving in with me, so we are introducing them to her as my girlfriend when the boys come for Thanksgiving."

Rory=" Okay, just make sure the boys are comfortable. If not, let them stay with your sister Veronica (Ronnie)."

Billy- "I know how to take care of our boys"

Rory "yes" nodding her head slowly up and down.

She then calls the boys to come back to the table. They were at the front window, watching the construction workers on the big equipment.

Rory is staying at the Morgan. She reserved a suite for her and the boys. Lorelai and Luke will be joining them tomorrow. They are going to take the boys to the zoo, while Rory has a meeting with her editor. Rory rarely takes business meetings with the boys in tow. This time Billy brought them to her early. He has a flight out tomorrow from New York to Australia and will be there for several months.

Rory and the boys are putting together a 3 D puzzle while they are waiting in their suite on the pizza when her phone rings. She steps away from the boys to answer.

Rory "Hello?"

Logan "Hey Ace, did I catch you at a bad time? Can you talk?"

Rory "Logan? Sure for a few minutes, I'm putting together a puzzle with the boys waiting on the pizza."

Logan "What time will they go to sleep? I want to see you, to catch up, but I don't want to take you away for the boys"

Rory "their bedtime is usually around 8:30 or 9 but being they just got home from being with their dad, Aunt Ronnie, and cousins, I'm not sure if they will go down easy or want to stay up. Why don't I call you when they go to sleep if it is not too late?"

Logan "that sounds great, looking forward to hearing from you."

Rory moves back to the puzzle with the boys. She is smiling. Chris asked her who was she talking to on the phone. Will asked why she is smiling. She tells them that it was an old friend on the phone and she is smiling because she is happy her little rug rats are back.
